Monday

Wednesday

Good morning,

Oh yay! A break in the weather! We’ll see high overcast/partly cloudy/sunny weather today, with no precipitation, warming temps, and increasing wind. The freezing level today will be 3000’ early, rising to 5500’ by 11am, 6000’ by 2pm and 7500’ by 5pm. Wind will be SW 15-20 early, 20-25 at 11am, 25-30 at 2pm and 30-35 at 5pm as a deep low pressure system off the coast heads our way. Increasing clouds will join the increasing wind.

Tuesday starts off cloudy and relatively warm on Mt Hood. The freezing level will be 7500’ early, 6000’ at 5am, 3000’ at 8am (when snow starts falling) and 2500’ for the rest of the day. Wind will be SW 40-45 early, slowly and steadily dropping to 15-20 at 5pm. We’ll see .3” water value in the morning for 2-3” new snow, followed by flurries and partly cloudy skies overnight for .1-.2” WV and an inch or two of new snow.

Wednesday brings more of the flurries/partly cloudy mix for .2-.3” WV during the day and 2-4” of new. The freezing level early will be 1500’, rising to 2000’ in the evening. Wind will be W 20-25 early, SW 15-20 midday and NW 15-20 after 5pm. There’s a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday brings more flurries/sunbreaks with limited accumulation and the snow level around 2000’ with NW wind at 10-15. The rest of the week and weekend looks pretty dry, with a few flurries/showers and plenty of sunbreaks.

In the wind forecast, we’ll have east wind picking up today as that low pressure system off the coast moves closer, pulling air through the Gorge. Tomorrow afternoon we’ll see 23-26 in the eastern Gorge. Not much wind on Wednesday. On Thursday, we’ll have high-pressure-driven westerlies at 17-21 from Hood River to The Dalles.

Have an awesome day today!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Tuesday

Good morning,

Well, like I said yesterday, it’s a breezy start to the morning on Mt. Hood. April Fools: the joke’s on the ski resorts and anyone who wants to get their skis on top of the fresh windslab today! We’ll see cold temps and fluffy snow, with the snow level around between 1000 and 2000’ all day today (I’m back to the computer without the five key, as my other two laptops both died this week. Anyone have a spare?). Wind will be WNW 45-55 (yeah, cut-and-paste 5) early, dropping to W 40 by 11am, and then swinging to a more lift-friendly direction of WSW 35 around 2pm, rising to 40-45 around 4pm, and then fading a bit, just a bit, through the evening. We’ll see orographic snow flurries all day, for .2-.3” water value and 2-4” of new snow, followed by a heavier round of precip overnight for another .3-.4” WV or 4-5” of new snow.

Monday starts off partly cloudy, becoming clear midday with high clouds moving in late afternoon. The freezing level will be 2500’ early, 5000’ by 8am, slowly rising to 7000’ by pm and 9000’ by 11pm. Wind Monday will be SW 30-35, picking up a bit to 35-40 midday. No precip.

Tuesday starts off cloudy, with snow flurries starting between 8am and 11am, depending on the speed of the incoming system. The snow level will be around 7000’ early in the morning, but by 11am, it’ll be down to 3000’, falling to 2000’ in the afternoon. I think we’ll see all snow from this system, for .2-.3” WV and 2-4” of new snow. Wind on Tuesday will be SW 35-45 all day, dropping to 10-15 late in the evening, as skies clear.

Wednesday looks partly cloudy with the freezing level below 1000’ early, rising to 2000’ in the afternoon. Wind will be NW 10-20. Snow will start falling in the afternoon or evening.

For you windsurfers and kiters, there will be strong wind in the eastern Gorge this morning, fading to 17-21 this afternoon. Next chance for wind is during a frontal passage Tuesday afternoon, but you’re going to have to do some pre-emptive driving, as it’s going to be a 2-hour blast that you’ll be chasing east. West wind arrives again on Thursday.

Have a great day today!
