Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Saturday

Monday

Good morning,

Oh what a glorious day it is! Sunshine! On Mt. Hood, we’ll see the freezing level rise to 6000’ today under clear skies. Wind will be WNW 10-15 early, rising to 15-20 mid-morning.

Sunday looks clear for much of the day, with high clouds moving in late in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 5500-6000’ with WNW wind at 15-20, dropping to 10-15 mid-morning.

We’ll see some precip start late Sunday night or early Monday morning, for .1-.2” water value by 5am. With the freezing level at 5500’ in the morning, this should fall as wet snow. Sadly the freezing level will rise to 6500’ by 2pm, before falling back to 4500’ around 8pm. That’s going to give us some rain during the day. We’ll see .3-.5” water value 5am-5pm, for rain down low and 3-5” of new snow up high. Wind will be SW 15-20 early, rising to 20-25 midday and 35-40 in the afternoon.

Another .2-.3” falls Monday night into Tuesday. With the freezing level at 4500’ late Monday, falling to 2000’ Tuesday morning, before rising to 4500’ in the afternoon, this should give us 2-4” of new snow. After the morning snowfall, skies will be partly cloudy Tuesday, with a few flurries, for no more significant accumulation. Wind will be W 20-25 early, going to SW 15-25 in the afternoon.

On the wind scene, today looks pretty good, with a classic Gorge setup under slightly colder conditions. We’ll see 21-24 for much of the day near Hood River, filing in at Doug’s and Rowena, and maybe even Maryhill, in the afternoon, but becoming gustier as the day goes on. The next two days look light.

In events, today is Ski to Defeat ALS at Mt. Hood Meadows. You can make a donation at their website. Coming up tomorrow, it’s Hood River Appreciation Day at Meadows with beer and wine samples. That should put you in the mood for your second sport of the day, followed by your third and fourth (do we have enough daylight for that yet.) In other news, the morels are starting to pop up. You can leave them at my house if you find them.

Have a great day today!

Good morning,

First thing this morning is a shopping reminder. Trew is clearing out this year’s stuff at 40% off. Visit their website for shopping options. I’ve had my Trew pants and jacket for 3 seasons, and have never been wet, even during Pineapple Express. I highly recommend the stuff. Plus, it’s a local Hood River company and the gear is sewn in Nepal. What more could you want? Oh, a heli-skiing trip, of course. Buy gear now and you could win a heli-skiing trip next week. Then you can try out your new steezy pants and jacket and bibs!

Don’t forget this weekend’s events: Ski to defeat ALS at Mt. Hood Meadows and Hood River Appreciation Day at Meadows on Sunday. At Timberline, the 75th anniversary celebration continues. At Crystal Mountain, it’s the bikini and boardshort downhill.

Ah yes, sunshine! We’ll see a lovely day on Mt. Hood today, with a few periods of high clouds mixed in with blue skies. The freezing level will be 3500’ this morning, rising to 5000’ this afternoon and 6000’ overnight. Wind will be SE 10-15 becoming light and variable.

Tomorrow looks stunning, with clear skies and the freezing level at 6000’. Wind will be N 5-10 early and NW 15-20 for the rest of the day. No precip. Maybe not even any clouds.

Sunday starts off clear, with the freezing level at 6000’. We’ll see high clouds move in sometime in the afternoon. Wind will be WNW 10-15 early, dropping to W 5-10 midday and switching to SW 15-20 in the afternoon. No precip.

Monday starts off cloudy, with a rain/snow mix starting around 2am. The snow level will be 5500’ early, rising to 6000’ at 5am and 6500’ at 8am, falling back to 4000’ late in the afternoon. We’ll see .3” water value of rain/snow mix by 5am, followed by another .2-.4” WV during the day and flurries overnight into Tuesday. Total snow accumulation will be less than 1” down low and 4-7” up high. Wind on Monday will be SW 20-25 for much of the day, swinging to W 30 late in the afternoon.

Have a great day today!
