Tuesday. Lots of wind this week, including Dawn Patrol. Yummy.

It was a hot and relatively windless day in the Gorge yesterday, which didn’t stop a bunch of foil-boarders from getting on the water yesterday evening. Lovely. Temps yesterday maxed out in the low 90’s, and they’ll max out in the upper 70’s today. That’s a 15 degree drop, and that means plenty of wind for the Gorge. Yay! Continued after the chart.

Today’s Gorge Wind – these are ranges for the average speed, not a predicted wind range. =)

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…
Coast Wind Forecast (when I remember).

Our morning started off with a hungry cat meowing on my chest and gradients of .16 (pdx-dls) and .04 (dls-psc). The hungry cat went away when I fed her, but the gradients aren’t going anywhere. Expect westerlies at 24-27 for Dawn Patrol at Swell with 15-18 everywhere east of there (except Mosier, which is likely going to see 22-25 this morning). By late morning, we’ll have 27-31 from Swell to Mosier. Expect the wind to back off a bit this afternoon at Swell and pick up at Steven’s Locks and the Rowena stretch to 26-30. Maryhill will join in with 23-26 and Arlington will have 17-21 this evening.

Sauvie’s and Jones beta test forecast: Jones, 22-25. Sauvie’s 8-12.

If today sounds fun, you’ll like tomorrow too. Expect Dawn Patrol from Swell to Mosier at 21-24. The wind will pick up in those locations to 25-29 by late morning, filling in at Stevenson and the Rowena stretch in the afternoon at 25-29.

Thursday starts off with Dawn Patrol at 17-21. Models show 26-30+ in the afternoon, but I’m concerned about an approaching upper level low. I suspect we’ll see wind in the morning and then a die-off late in the morning or early afternoon as that weather system starts to affect atmospheric dynamics across the PNW. As of right now, Friday looks like 22-25.

Out on the coast, there’s not much happening, except at Pistol (north/central/south). Today: 5-10/15-20/30-35, swell NW 3′ @ 8 seconds. Tomorrow: 10-15/10-15/30-35, SW 2 @ 14. Thursday: Light/5-10/20-25, SW 2 @ 13.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Nothing to say here today.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m sitting here staring at the computer screen trying to come up with something to say. To be quite honest, I don’t want to be contemplating and typing. I want to be windsurfing. So here’s what I think: sometimes you gotta listen to your heart and roll with it. I’m going windsurfing. You go follow your heart and do what it’s asking for too. Have an awesome day!

Gorge Weather Forecast

In yet another amazing start to a June-gust / Aug-une day, there are a few high clouds in the sky. But don’t worry – it’ll be plenty sunny for your tan to increase today. Expect temps in the upper 50’s this morning and upper 70’s this afternoon. Strong wind. No rainbows. Tomorrow starts off in the mid 50’s and finishes up in the upper 70’s. Strong wind. NO rainbows. Expect exactly the same on Thursday with the possibility of a few more high clouds.

Road and Mountain Biking

There’s not much to talk about in dirt world: it’s dry out there and everything is open. In road biking news, it looks rather windy for the next four days. In race news, 12 Hours of Post and the Oregon Enduro are in Post Canyon this weekend, so all the other trails will be relatively people-free.

You’ve been in the river all day playing like a fish. You’re hungry. You want sushi. Hit up Sushi Okalani’s happy hour, Mon-Fri 5-6pm, and Sunday 5pm-9:30. You’ll find $5 rolls, specials on sake and beer, and edamame. You’ll also find a new chef who’s serving up specials like Korean brisket & seared scallops with a ginger-cream sauce and avo-wasabi puree. You can get sushi to go, and you can get to-go sake with that sushi. No open container law in HR means you can have a sushi-sake picnic. Yay!

Upcoming Events

Today’s events include community yoga, free or by donation, at Flow at 8am. This evening has pickup touch rugby at 5:30 at the Hood River Marina, community yoga at the Mosier senior center at 7, triathlon practice at Mayer Park at 6:15, and Manbo’s Fun Ride, leaving Mountain View Cycles at 6:15, riding to Mosier’s new pub, and returning after dinner. You’ll need a helmet and lights, and you’re not allowed to wear spandex.

Tonight is meditation at Yoga Samadhi at 6:30 with the monk(s) of Pacific Hermitage. This is a non-religious mindfulness practice. Just show up – there are chairs and cushions and everything you need. 30-40 minutes of mindfulness is followed by a 30 minute talk by our lovely abbot, Ajahn Sudanto. It’s a cool group of people and a nice way to wind down your day.

Tomorrow at 5:30 is Families at Family Man – kids and bikes. Also tomorrow at 5:30, there’s the women’s Post n’ Pinot mountain bike ride, a whitewater paddle on the White Salmon meeting at Husum, and ping pong at the Hood River Armory.

Coming up this weekend, it’s one to stay out of Post Canyon unless you’re spectating. The Oregon Enduro race is both Saturday and Sunday and the informal 12 hours of Post is Saturday. For equestrians, the Wheatacres Ranch Challenge is Saturday, and for runners, the White Salmon Backyard Half Marathon is Saturday. As always, thanks to the Kreps family for hosting that one on their land. If you would like to buy Kreps cows to eat for dinner, you can give them a call at 509-493-2361.

The last weekend in June is the CGWA beach bash, and they need volunteers. If the following appeals to you, click here to sign up to help. On Thursday night, it’s the Pray for Wind dinner at Stonehedge. Friday is a high wind demo and a concert. There’s a beach party Saturday, and Sunday is a swap meet followed by a bbq. You can get more info and hit the Facebook join button.

Have an awesome day today!
