Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Snowfall continues Tuesday into Wednesday before temps start to warm on Mt. Hood. With the mercury headed for 2-6C on the slopes this week, we’re definitely going to see rain. We’ll likely even see significant rain as a weak atmospheric river aims at the Northwest for part of the near-term forecast period.

For Tuesday, though, it’s all snow all the time. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning and 2500′ in the afternoon. About 0.4” water value (WV) falls during the day, for 4-5” of snow. Another 0.4” falls overnight, for another 4-5” of decent quality Pacific Northwest powder. Wind will be SW 25-30 in the morning WSW 30-35 in the afternoon, and W 35 after midnight.

Temps climb too high to support snow at 5000′ by early afternoon Wednesday. We’ll then see a switch to mixed precip or plain-rain. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 5500′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ in the evening and overnight. Impressive precip totals too: 1.4” WV during the day, with perhaps 5-8” snow before a switch to slushy snow or rain. 1.5” rain/snain/snow mix overnight with 0-2” accumulation at 5000′. Wind will be W 35 all day. It’ll turn to WSW 20-25 overnight.

Thursday looks warmer but probably not quite as wet. The snow level will be 6000′ early, 7000′ in the afternoon, and 5500′ after the precip stops in the wee hours of Friday. About 0.7” rain falls during the day. Another 0.4” rain falls overnight. Details become less clear after Thursday. We may see a bit of a break on Friday followed by another round of moderate rain Saturday. Stay tuned to see how the forecast develops.

Wednesday starts with calm wind in the central Gorge and W 15-20 west of Bonneville Dam. In the afternoon, the wind turns around to E 10-15. Thursday’s wind will be light and variable.
