Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Tuesday morning. Woot woot! An upper low off the coast of BC will stay there today and slowly drop south over the next couple of days. Results: cloudy conditions. Embedded energy around the low will swing over the Gorge, causing gusty, moderate west wind and a chance of afternoon thunder.

Tuesday looks cloudy all day. The western Gorge will see on-and-off sprinkles with actual rain after 5pm. The impulse causing the rain will bump up the afternoon wind. We’ll start the day with gradients of .04 and .05 and westerlies in the 10-15 range. Stevenson will likely remain showery all day with westerlies at 7-12. Viento to Rowena should build to gusty, inconsistent 16-19 this afternoon. Avery to Arlington should end the day with gusty 20-23. River flow is 81,300cfs and temp is 68 degrees.

Wednesday also looks cloudy with sprinkles in the west. The aforementioned upper low will drop south along the coast. Afternoon thunder is a possibility, so keep an eye out for lightning. Models disagree on afternoon wind strength on Wednesday. We start the day with west 7-10 everywhere. In the afternoon, gusty westerlies at 15-18 east of Viento seem possible, although models are suggesting anything from mid-teens to mid-twenties.

Low pressure off the coast Thursday morning limits wind strength early, but an afternoon weather impulse moving through energizes the Gorge. The day starts with 10-15 everywhere. After noon, we’ll have gusty 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier with gusty 24-27 from Rowena to Arlington. Models are completely at odds about Friday, so no forecast is possible.

BONUS: Jones Tuesday: 5-8. Wednesday: nope. Thursday: nada. Sauvie’s Tuesday: no. Wednesday: 5-8. Thursday: 12-15 late. Coast (north/central/south). Tuesday: SW5/W5/N5, west swell 7′ at 10 seconds. Wednesday: SW10/X/N10-15, W 5′ @ 8. Thursday: SW10/SW10/Nope, W 5′ @ 8.

Random Morning Thoughts

One of the things that surprises me every day I work with clients is how fulfilled and content I feel at the end of the day. My surprise comes in part because of how highly I value flexibility in my life, and also because my fulfillment came from athletic activities for many years. But this isn’t about me. It’s about something that generalizes to most people.

Over the course of life, we find things that make us happy. We stick with those things. Sometimes this works out over the long run, but something the joy we take from those activities starts to fade. We’re left uncertain what to try next, especially when we may have vetoed some of the options based on past experience.

It’s important to remember that we change over time. Things that might have felt boring, uninspiring, or burdensome in the past might be things we’d love now. All those things we found uninteresting in the past are worth revisiting. While our memories of those experiences stay (relatively) unchanged, our perspective on life may have changed dramatically. This means we can experience all those things anew. Give it a shot: you might find some real gems in what previously seemed like dirt. May you find contentment. Have an awesome day.
