Gorge Wind Forecast

Active fall weather and cool overnight temps continue to minimize the chances of a strong west wind day for the next five days or so. For Thursday, a weak weather system this afternoon will give a bit of a bump to the westerlies. The day starts light and variable with near-nothing in gradient land. Afternoon wind picks up to 7-10 in the west and 13-16 from Rowena to Rufus. River flow is 105kcfs and temp is 62 degrees.

Friday sees the lingering effects of this weather system in the morning and then benefits from a low moving into BC and building offshore high pressure. Morning wind will be light westerly in most places with 10-13 east of Rufus. Afternoon wind picks up to 8-12 from Stevenson to Avery and gusty 17-20 from Maryhill to Threemile.

A ridge of high pressure builds inland on Saturday for light and variable wind all day. It appears easterlies will pick up to 20-30 on Sunday.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Coast (north/central/south, wind N unless otherwise specified – swell forecast courtesy of National Weather Service). Thursday-Friday: no northerlies anywhere. W swell 7′ @ 8 Thursday and NW 8 @ 12 Friday. Saturday: LTNW/15-20/25-30, NW 5′ @ 10. Sunday also looks windy at the central and south coast. Jones/Sauvie’s: nope for Thursday-Saturday.

Road and Mountain Biking

There’s brown pow out there, so go get it. Logging is finished on the Whoopdee trail. The southern 1/3 of the trail is gone, but you are welcome to go up there and ride and check it out. Ronnoc trail is still open and good to go, as is the climb out. Work parties coming soon.

130,140, Borderline, and the jump trails in the 150 area are closed for timber harvesting. Upper 8 Track is now closed due to logging. Motorized use is now permitted in Post (thanks, rain!), east side and Middle Mountain. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill, which means your dog can come along.
