Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Several days of dry, warm weather and sunshine are forecast for Mt. Hood. The next available precipitation in the forecast is all the way out at Friday. Until then: spring skiing! Thankfully those spring passes are in full effect, allowing you to take full advantage of the sunny, warm conditions.

For Monday, it’ll be sunny on the mountain. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 9000′ or so all day. Wind could be a bit problematic, especially at T-line, which tends to take the brunt of the easterlies. We’ll have E 25 int eh morning, SE 30 in the afternoon, and SE 25 overnight.

Ditto on Tuesday. Sunshine all day. Free air freezing level will be 8000′ early and 9000′ later. SE wind at 25mph all day and all night. Wednesday sees some high clouds move in. Lower clouds move in midday, but the weather stays dry. Overnight weather looks partly cloudy. FAF: 9000′ during the day, 8000′ overnight. No precip. Wind: SE 20 all day, S 10 after midnight.

Thursday looks partly cloudy with the FAF around 7000′. Next chance of precip is 11am Friday onward. It looks like this will start as a snow/rain mix or wet snow and transition to snow overnight. Total accumulation will be 3-5”. Snow flurries linger under partly cloudy sky Saturday, and full sunshine returns for Sunday.

Road and Mountain Biking

Judging by the hoards of Strava reports, the lower portion of Syncline (Moab, Maui and the doubletrack) is ready to ride and in good shape. No Strava reports from the upper half means it’s either snowy or muddy, so don’t plan for it. Other local trails are still snow-covered. Some options that might work for you: Klickitat Trail. Deschutes River Trail. Columbia Hills State Park is a giant “possibly?”. The road biking will be excellent the next several days if you can tolerate a bit of east wind. Yesterday’s roadie kit: shorts, two jerseys, long gloves, and a lightweight shell.
