Monday. Get your nice weather before they open the oven door this weekend.

It’s really quite lovely out there this morning with enough wind to get most of you on the water and not enough wind to scare most of you away. What does that look like? Upper teens near Hood River and low double-digits at most other beaches. Gradients support continuing wind today, with .09 (pdx-dls) and .03 (dls-psc) and .12 (eph-dls). Expect 17-21 from Swell to Mosier this morning with 13-15 everywhere else. We’ll see the wind build to 21-24 from Stevenson to Mosier by midday and then jump to 24-28 after 2pm, likely strongest near Doug’s with low 20’s everywhere else from Stevenson to Rufus. Arlington will pick up to 15-18 late this afternoon. Continued after the chart.

Random Morning Thoughts

I was sitting here this morning trying to come up with something to write when I realized that yesterday was Father’s Day. Oops. Missed it again. This one goes out to all of you in the same boat, to all of you who regularly forget family-related holidays.

May you find men and women (and folks on other areas of the gender spectrum) in your world who can play the role of mother and father. May you have friends who support you and stand by you unconditionally. May the people in your life gently point out your flaws and help you grow in the way that your parents did not.

May you be loved, may you love others, and may your community and the world support you. Have a beautiful day today, everyone!

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s another lovely day here in the Gorge with just a few high clouds. Temps will rise to the upper 70’s or low 80’s today with moderate wind. Tomorrow starts in the mid to upper 50’s and climbs to the upper 70’s with a few high clouds. Light wind early, moderate wind late. No rainbows. Wednesday starts with temps in the mid 50’s and ends in the mid 80’s. Almost-calm wind early, moderate wind late. No rainbows.

By Friday, we’ll be seeing temps in the 90’s, and the 100’s are possible this weekend. That’s 20+ degrees above normal temps. One more thing to add here: So far in June, only two days have been below average temps. All the rest have been above average, well above average in most cases. Food for thought.

Road and Mountain Biking

The only thing I can say here is that everything is still open, long before it should all be open. Get it before fire season really gets rolling. It’s dry out there… Pray for rain. On the roads, there’s fresh pavement by the Mt. Hood Store, and fresh pavement by McCurdy Farms. Who doesn’t like fresh pavement?

Remember, regulated use closure has begun, so dirt bikes are OK in Post Canyon but nowhere else on Hood River County Land. And you, yes you, if you are driving on forest roads, you need to carry a shovel and a gallon of water or a fire extinguisher.
