Gorge Wind Forecast

Offshore high pressure keeps westerlies of some sort going over the next four days despite interruptions from weather systems sweeping inland. For Friday, morning gradients of .08 and .04 indicate potential. Early wind, pre-dawn, was all over the place, maxing out in the 20’s. Your dawn patrol session will find 18-22 most locations, but probably strongest at Viento and Moiser. We’ll see a steady build today. Westerlies max out at 24-27 this afternoon from Stevenson to Avery with 13-16 east of there and light wind out near Arlington. River flow is 77,500cfs and temp is 68 degrees.

Offshore high pressure combines with weaker inland high pressure for another round of west wind on Saturday. Models disagree with the wind strength. Early wind will be in the 7-10 range from Stevenson to Swell, perfect for fishing everywhere else. Afternoon westerlies pick up to 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier with light wind east of there.

A stronger weather system will move in Sunday, but offshore high pressure will keep the westerlies coming. That sets us up for light west wind in the morning, probably not enough to interfere with any light wind activities. Afternoon wind picks up to 6-9 in the west (with rain) and 19-22 east of Moiser. As of right now, Monday looks like 22-25, strongest near Swell.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Coast (north/central/south, wind N unless otherwise specified – swell forecast courtesy of National Weather Service). Friday: LTW/LTNW/N25-30, NW swell 4′ at 12 seconds. Saturday: LTW/N5-10/N20-25, NW 5′ @ 12. Sunday: 15-20/15-20/LTV, W 8′ @ 11. Jones Friday-Saturday: nope. Sunday: 10-13. Sauvie’s Friday-Sunday: nope.

Road and Mountain Biking

Brown pow is HERE! Tack alert for all trails! 130,140, Borderline, and the jump trails in the 150 area are closed for timber harvesting. Upper 8 Track is now closed due to logging. Motorized use is now permitted in Post (thanks, rain!), east side and Middle Mountain.

All other trails are open. Apparently Boulder Lakes is quite overgrown. Whoopdee is closed for logging, but Ronnoc trail and the climb out are open. Red Hill Road is supposedly closed for logging. Ride at your own risk. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill, which means your dog can come along.
