Gorge Wind Forecast

While there’s not much wind on the water to start Wednesday, the air has that windy feel, and the .07 (pdx-dls) gradient confirms it. Today’s major malfunction is the fact that the atmosphere will destabilize this afternoon, impacting the wind quality and reliability. We’ll see the wind pick up to 18-22 by late morning from Stevenson to Mosier. Late in the afternoon, the wind should jump to gusty 24-27 from Stevenson to Avery. River temp is 56 degrees. Flow is 504kcfs.

Thursday looks cloudy with atmospheric instability, meaning the wind is gong to be gusty and unreliable. Modes also predict rain, or perhaps thunder, east of Hood River in the morning. So, my best guess is Dawn Patrol of gusty 15-18 from Viento to Arlington. The wind may pick up to gusty 22-25 from Mosier to Avery in the afternoon and 11-14 from Stevenson to Hood River. All that said, it’s entirely possible things could completely shut down at time due to the atmospheric dynamics.

Friday also looks unstable, but the exact location of the wet or thundery weather is difficult to determine. The GFS brings it overhead. The Euro keeps it south and east of Hood River. So, let’s call this a guess: Dawn Patrol of 20-23 from Hood River to Mosier. Mid-morning to afternoon wind at gusty 24-27 from Stevenson to Mosier.

The weather stabilizes over the weekend. Saturday looks like 27-31, strongest east of Hood River for Dawn Patrol and filling back to Viento in the afternoon. Sunday looks like 24-28. Models also like the idea of 24-28+ on Monday. More details as we get closer, but it definitely looks like a good weekend to travel to the Gorge if you’re looking for wind.

BONUS: Jones Wednesday: 21-24. Thursday: 17-20. Friday: 24-28. Sauvie’s Wednesday: 7-11. Thrusday: 10-13 late. Friday: 15-19. Coast (north/central/south). Wednesday: 10-15/10-15/5-10, W swell 6′ at 11 seconds. Thursday: 15-20/10-15/X, W 7′ @ 11. Friday: 10-15/15-20/25-30, W 5′ @ 11.
