Gorge Wind Forecast

Easterlies continue for two more days along with enhanced fire danger weather from the combo of heat, low humidity, and east wind. If you’re visiting, do not start a campfire or smoke anything outside your vehicle. This is your last forecast until Saturday.

Wednesday wind starts at 30-35 near Rooster and 20-25 near Stevenson. The wind holds through mid to late morning and then drops about 10mph at Rooster and 5mph at Stevenson. Areas east of Hood River, to Hood River, see afternoon easterlies at 10-15mph today. River flow is 84,900cfs and temp is 68 degrees. High temp today: 87.

Easterlies don’t last long on Thursday. The morning starts with 20-25 near Rooster and 15-20 near Stevenson. It’ll be a relatively quick fade; by early afternoon, easterlies will be down to 5-10 or less. The wind goes light and variable in the evening. High temp: 90.

Friday starts with light west wind at 10-13 from Viento to Hood River and 5-10 east of there. Afternoon: gusty 18-22 from Stevenson to The Dalles. High temp: 88. As of this morning, it appears that Saturday holds light westerlies and Sunday holds a round of stronger west wind.

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Cycling

9/5: Hood River County lands are now closed between 9pm and 5am due to extreme fire danger and the likelihood of nighttime users starting a fire. Lands are still open during the day. Moto use is limited to developed roads. Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood are closed due to fire danger. Respect the closures. Other Post news: Eldorado has reopened, as have other trails associated with that particular timber harvest closure.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
