Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

The Mt. Hood snow forecast for Tuesday contains rain and wind. Wednesday looks partly cloudy. Thursday might have high clouds or clear sky. After that, the forecast in in disagreement about precipitation, storm systems, and everything else.

For Tuesday, Mt. Hood will see light rain that switches to snow overnight. The snow level will be 8000′ in the morning, 6500′ in the afternoon, and 5000′ in the evening and overnight. About 1/4” rain falls during the day. Another 1/4” falls overnight, ending as a trace to 1” of new snow. Wind will be NW 25 early, WNW 30 midday, and WNW 40-45 in the afternoon and evening, which could shut down some of the regularly scheduled lifts at the resorts.

Wednesday starts off partly cloudy with perhaps a few snow flurries. Clear sky or partly cloudy sky followed. The free air freezing level will be 5000′ early, 6000′ in the afternoon, and 7000′ after midnight. Wind will be NW 35 in the morning, NW 25 in the afternoon, and NW 15 overnight.

Thursday might have high clouds and might be sunny. The free air freezing level will be 7000′ in the morning, slowly dropping to 3500′ overnight. Wind will be NW 15 early, WNW 25 in the afternoon, and WNW 40 overnight.

Looking long range, there’s disagreement in the models. It’s either clear or sprinkly Friday, clear or showery Saturday, and dry or snowy Monday with showers or a pineapply downpour on Tuesday. In other words, don’t trust any forecast beyond 72 hours right now!

Random Morning Thoughts

You might have noticed that you experience contradictory emotions and contradictory beliefs about yourself. This is normal, believe it or not. Even if those beliefs are completely incompatible, it’s normal to have them.

Our internal contractions often lie at the “good” and “bad” ends of the spectrum. It can be uncomfortable, shameful, embarrassing to sit with the beliefs that don’t feel good. In response, many of us will turn away from them and bury them below the level of fully conscious thought. While this may save us from present-moment distress, it can lead to longer-term (if less acute!) discomfort.

The solution is to become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Rather than pushing it away, take a little time to explore it. By doing this, you’ll learn that you can tolerate these beliefs about yourself. You’ll learn that they are not “who” you are, but merely another thought, emotion, or belief that arises and passes away. Check it out sometime. May you be welcoming to yourself. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Wednesday, and offshore high pressure today will combine with a front moving inland for strong, gusty west wind, especially in the eastern Gorge. And by the way, it’s Tuesday, not Wednesday and I don’t feel like retyping the first sentence. Anyway, we’ll start off with gusty westerlies at 24-28 near Viento and in the far eastern Gorge. In the afternoon, the wind will change a bit: it’ll fill in everywhere. Under the clouds from Stevenson to Swell or so, the wind will be gusty 16-20 with more possible from the Narrows to Viento. East of Mosier, the wind will pick up to gusty 28-33, steadiest east of Maryhill.

Wednesday starts with 10-13 in the western Gorge and 13-16 in the eastern Gorge. In the afternoon, the wind will pick up to 23-27 from Mosier to Arlington. Thursday sees a low approach Vancouver Island during the day. This sets the Gorge up for 13-16 in the morning with 23-26 in the afternoon, strongest from Swell to Rowena. River temp is 43 degrees. River flow is 203kcfs at The Dalles, a good reading for conditions in the Rufus stretch of the Columbia.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s mostly cloudy out there, and that’s the story for today. Sprinkles early, steady light rain for much of the day, and sprinkles in the evening. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and mid 50’s this afternoon. Strong west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Wednesday sees a few sprinkles early and then partly cloudy sky. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and upper 50’s later. Light west wind early, moderate later. 47% chance of early morning rainbows. Thursday looks either clear or high overcast. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and near 60 in the afternoon. Moderate west wind. No rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

Looks like we’ll have rain today, meaning Post, at least, will be too muddy/slick to ride. You might have better luck at Syncline, but it’s going to be awfully windy! Maybe your best bet today is to ride some gravel roads…

Upcoming Events

Coming up Tuesday, there’s by-donation moving meditation at Trinity at 6:15. There’s a free meditation/breathing class at Flow at 8am. There a free yoga class at Trinity Natural Medicine at noon. There are two evening by-donation events: a women’s only (anyone identifying as “female”) mobility, strength and self-defense class at First Light in Hood River at 6pm, and meditation with the Pacific Hermitage monks at 6:30 at Yoga Samadhi.
