Tuesday Gorge wind forecast & Gorge weather: breezy today, less the next couple of days, and probably windy this weekend.

Hi friends! Another breezy day is on tap today. Today’s wind is followed by a couple lighter days in the Gorge wind forecast Models are hinting at stronger wind this weekend thanks to a bit of a cooldown, but uncertainty is high about the timing. We’re definitely looking at a cooldown by the start of…

GORGE WIND FORECAST

SHORT-TERM gorge wind forecast

Hi friends! Another breezy day is on tap today. Today’s wind is followed by a couple lighter days in the Gorge wind forecast Models are hinting at stronger wind this weekend thanks to a bit of a cooldown, but uncertainty is high about the timing. We’re definitely looking at a cooldown by the start of next week. Will it be โ€œThe Cooldown You Are Looking Forโ€? That remains to be seen, but the Euro ensemble is looking quite pleased with next Sunday, Monday, and potentially Saturday. GFS: very excited about Saturday and Monday. We shall see. In the meantime…

Tuesday started with pressures of 30.27/30.19/30.16 and 30.41 offshore. There are a few clouds in the hole, and we’re expecting about 7 degrees of cross-Cascade temp gradient this afternoon. Early wind was 15-18mph from Viento to the Hatch. That quickly builds to 20-23mph from Viento to Hood River with 17-20mph at Mosier this morning. Stevenson slowly builds as well.

In the afternoon, a weak system moves inland to the north โ€“ you’ll see the high clouds from this. At this point, the Hatch drops to 16-19mph. Other areas between Stevenson and Rufus rise to 21-24mph with 17-20mph at Arlington. After 2pm, we’ll have gusty 22-26mph from Stevenson to Arlington with gusty 17-20mph at the Hatch. It’s possible we could see gusty 25-28mph between Lyle and Rufus if we get lucky. River flow over the last 24 hours was 199-239kcfs, river temp is 57.6F, and high temp forecasts range from 70F in Hood River to 77F in the desert.

LONGER-TERM gorge wind forecast

Wednesday starts with low clouds to the west and mostly sunny sky to the east. A few marine clouds are forecast to stick around all day on the west side, but it won’t be 100% socked in, sadly. Models aren’t all that optimistic โ€“ they call for 11-14mph from Viento to the Hatch in the morning. Afternoon forecast is 16-19mph from Stevenson to Avery. Given the clouds and the 1030mb offshore high, it’s possible we could exceed this forecast by 3-5mph. I will cross my fingers if you do!

A rest day is in the cards on Thursday unless you head to the coast or Jones Beach. The Gorge starts with less than 10mph or perhaps even calm wind. Afternoon: 12-15mph from Stevenson to Hood River with nothing out east. Highs range form 80F in Hood River to 84F in The Dales. Friday’s forecast is currently 18-21mph.

Uncertainty jumps on Saturday as models struggle to resolve the incoming cooldown. The GFS is excited about Saturday and Monday and not so excited about Sunday. The Euro is excited about Sunday and Monday but not so excited about Saturday. Either way, there are hints of decent wind for the upcoming holiday weekend. Hope to see you on the Nch’i Wana soon!

HYPERLOCAL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE

THE DALLES, HOOD RIVER, WHITE SALMON, TROUT LAKE, STEVENSON, CASCADE LOCKS, PARKDALE, ODELL, HUSUM, BZ, MILL A, WILLARD, GOLDENDALE, RUFUS, ARLINGTON, boardman

Good morning, neighbors. Benign, mild, rather copacetic weather is forecast for the next few days. Only thing to keep watch on is the painting project for the bed of the Nch’i Wana โ€“ there will be periodic draining of various pools to paint the riverbed hot pink โ€“ that’s the color spawning salmon like best, and it helps lower the river temperature too, which keeps the fish healthy. Generally speaking, high temps will be 85 or less for the next couple of weeks. The only chance of frost is next Monday in Glenwood and Dufur. 850mb temps are likely to drop near 0C again, but it’ll probably be cloudy, which means frost probably won’t happen!

Glenwood this morning and today’s Gorge weather forecast

Speaking of Glenwood… it’s 33F there this morning, cold enough for a frost and warm enough that a fresh glass of warm cow milk is on the table for everyone this morning. Temps today climb to SIX-SEVEN degrees in Stevenson, 70F in Hood River, and 74F in The Dalles. A few mid-level, Little Fluffy Clouds pop up in the afternoon, and high clouds increase. West wind starts at 15-20mph between Viento and Hood River and builds to 20-25mph from Mosier to Arlington’s Triangle late afternoon into the evening.

Wednesday’s Gorge weather forecast

Wednesday starts with low clouds west of Hood River and high clouds to the east, which gives us yet another pretty sunrise. Early temps will be 40-50F. Afternoon brings 72F in Stevenson, 75F in Hood River, and 78F in The Dalles. That onshore temp gradient gives us west wind, again: 10-15mph near Hood River in the morning with 15-20mph from Stevenson to Avery in the afternoon. Farther east: light wind all day.

Thursday’s Gorge weather forecast

Need a light wind day to get some thing accomplished (spraying, cycling, hot-air-ballooning)? Thursday is your day. We start with 40-50F and finish with 79-82F. Wind will be less than 10mph or perhaps even calm early. Afternoon: 10-15mph from Stevenson to Hood River with light/variable wind to the east.

Extended Gorge weather forecast

Looking at the extended forecast… Friday looks warmer and a bit windier. Uncertainty increases starting Saturday, when high temps may fall a bit. A more dramatic cooling trend is likely to start at the end of next weekend or early next week. That’ll be (probably) accompanied by at least a little rain and a little mountain snow โ€“ 850mb temps are forecast to drop down to 0C next Monday morning which puts a few of us at risk of frost if the sky clears. Uncertainty about high temps lingers into the first week of June. Generally speaking, temps look likely to stay under 85F and maybe under 80F. Sounds downright AWESOME, dreamy, THE BEST, to me. If highs stayed below 80F all summer long (like they used to most of the time), I’d be a happy, happy camper. I hope you are a happy camper today! Safe travels. -TATAS
