Gorge Wind Forecast

Your friends the westerlies will be around through at least Saturday now. In yesterday’s forecast, the wind looked stronger than it does in today’s forecast. It’ll likely continue to bounce around a bit. That said, you’ll find wind this week if you have the time to take advantage of it!

Looking at Tuesday, we see a light start. Thanks to offshore high pressure and desert heating, the wind won’t stay light. A slow and steady build results in 16-19 from Viento to The Dalles today with 10-13 at Stevenson. East of The Dalles, the wind stays light and variable. River flow is 230kcfs. River temp is 54F. High temp forecast is 78F.

Wednesday looks warm and sunny and windy. The day starts with 7-10 from Viento to Swell with light and variable wind elsewhere. Midday westerlies climb to 20-23 form Stevenson to The Dalles. If you need a little more wind, you’ll find it in the afternoon. The Viento to Rufus stretch picks up to 23-26. Eastern Gorge: 10-13 or so. High temp will be 81F.

Another round of sunny, warm, windy weather is predicted for Thursday. 8-11mph starts the day, but just from Viento to Mosier. Other locations will be officially “light and variable.” You’ll probably have to wait until afternoon for stronger wind; as of this morning, the forecast is for 20-23 form Stevenson to The Dalles after 2pm. Today’s Friday-Saturday forecast is 24-27. Models have dropped the wind speed way down for Sunday. It appears that we’ll see some sort of cooldown and stronger westerly day early next week, but the details are far from certain. Enjoy the warm and windy weather!
