Keep in mind that this forecast attempts to predict what the iKite/iWind sensors will read. Think like a local! All sensors are not equal. Swell reads low. Viento/Arlington/The Wall read high compared to Swell. 30mph at Rufus (The Wall sensor) is about 23-24mph at Swell. 30mph at Swell is about 35-37mph at Rufus/Viento/Arlington. Hope that helps!
SHORT-TERM gorge wind forecast

Hi friends! East wind is on tap for the weekend along with unseasonably warm, sunny weather. A solid round of westerlies (deets below) is in the Gorge wind forecast for Monday. We then fall into a rather light wind pattern for much of next week, probably. Sometime in the Friday/Saturday window, a stronger day is possible as an incoming weather system drives temps back down to seasonable norms.
It’s Saturday, aka CATurday (the animal, not the bus), and we started off with pressures of 30.05/30.09/30.12 for offshore gradients all through the Gorge. At dawn, the wind was generally under 15mph, but it will pick up some: easterlies rise to 22-25mph at Stevenson, Iwash (Rooster) Rock, and Viento for a few hours this morning. After 11:30am or so, the wind fades. It ends the day at 15mph at Iwash Rock and 10-15mph at Stevenson with 10mph at Viento. River flow over the last 24 hours was 61-83kcfs, river temp is 65.8F, and high temp forecast is 79F and sunny.

LONGER-TERM gorge wind forecast

Lesser, faster-fading easterlies are lined up for Sunday. Morning wind will be 17-20mph at Viento, Stevenson, Home Valley, and Iwash Rock. The wind quickly fades. After 2pm, the wind will be under 10mph out of the east at Stevenson and Viento and light westerly at Iwash Rock. High temp: 81.
Westerlies return on Monday as the heat low shifts to the desert and offshore high pressure lends a hand. A wiggle in the weather offshore might increase the gustiness quotient in the Gorge. Early wind will be 17-20mph from Viento to Hood River. Mid-morning sees 21-24mph from Viento to Mosier with 17-20mph at Stevenson and 12-15mph near Rowena. As the clouds burn off in the metro area in the afternoon, the wind dips a bit and fills in at 19-22mph from Stevenson to Avery. High temp: 82.
Lingering light westerlies are possible on Tuesday morning before calmer weather in the afternoon. Wednesday and Thursday will probably be rather light. Models suggest a 20 degree drop in temps either Friday or Saturday. At some point in that window, we’ll see a period of stronger westerlies. As of this morning, models aren’t calling for a nuker โ this is not The Cooldown You Were Looking For โ but we should see a decent day on the river. Beyond that: cooler temps overall and too much uncertainty to forecast for you. Hope to see you on the Nch’i Wana soon!

Good morning, neighbors! Warm, sunny weather continues all the way through next Thursday. Frost chances are minimal unless you’re in Glenwood, where the long nights, dry air, and overnight inversion will take temps to the mid 30s each night. Also contributing: a wormhole that links directly to Siberia. All-around cooler weather returns next Friday or Saturday with a chance of rain, mostly for areas west of Hood River. All-in-all, not much to talk about and no signficant commuter concerns for now.
Saturday started off clear and sunny with temps in the mid 40s to mid 50s most places. Sunshine sticks around all day like a used-up estrogen patch you forgot to remove. Do those things EVER fall off?!? Temps rise to 79 in Stevenson, 79 in Hood River, 84 in The Dalles, and 82 in Pasco. East wind will be 20-25mph this morning at Iwash (it’s not a rooster, silly bean) Rock and Stevenson and Viento. Afternoon wind falls to 10-15mph in those places and rises to 10mph east of The Dalles, up in the hills and plateaus, and down in South Wasco County.
Sunday looks very, very similar. Just knock the morning wind down to 15-20mph and the afternoon wind to light/variable. Highs: 81/81/86 (HOT)/81.
Monday looks a couple degrees warmer. It’s gonna feel HOT for October! Sunshine lingers. West wind returns at 20-25mph between Stevenson and Hood River in the morning and 20mph between Stevenson and Avery in the afternoon. Tuesday looks similarly warm with west wind at 15-20mph in the morning and less in the afternoon. Sunny, warm, not-too-windy weather continues on Wednesday and Thursday.
A big shift in the weather (different than a โbig shitโ, which I initially typed, and which, btw, I did not produce this morning) arrives Friday or Saturday with 20 degrees less warmth and quite a few more clouds. We could even see a bit of rain, but the details on where, when, and how much aren’t clear yet. Beyond next weekend, it’ll be cooler. Eventually it’ll rain a lot. And then it might snow. But hopefully we won’t see any ice storms or any ICE storms all winter long. Safe travels. -TATAS
