SHORT-TERM gorge wind forecast

Hi friends! Fun riding with you on the Nch’i Wana yesterday! Another breezy morning is forecast, but models suggest you’ll want to hop on it early. Windier weather returns on Friday, and then uncertainty jumps. Saturday’s likely to be plenty windy, and Sunday may be enough as well. Beyond that, there’s too much uncertainty about how the weather will play out to hazard a guess about the Gorge wind forecast.
Thursday started with pressures of 30.17/30.03/29.99 for gradients of 0.14/0.04. The metro area is free of clouds to start the day, and a weak front will move through. Early wind was 20-23mph from Viento to Hood River with 10-13mph at Stevenson and areas between Lyle and Arlington. Models suggest a quick drop to 18-21mph between Viento and Mosier by 11am with Stevenson jumping on the bandwagon at 18-21mph.
A further slide is forecast by early afternoon โ westerlies drop to 13-16mph. Later in the day, thermal assistance lends a hand and gives us 16-19mph from Stevenson to Doug’s. East of The Dalles, westerlies will be under 15mph all day today. River flow over the last 24 hours was 114-166kcfs, river temp is 66.4F, and high temp forecast is 84F in Hood River.

LONGER-TERM gorge wind forecast

Friday starts with marine clouds in the metro area and sunshine to the east. Desert heat combines with an approaching cold front offshore for big thermal gradients. Early wind will be 25-28mph from Viento to Mosier with 10-13mph to the east and 18-21mph at Stevenson. By late morning, westerlies fill in at 22-25mph from Lyle to ?Avery and 17-20mph at Rufus. Models suggest Corridor (Viento to Hood River) wind will plummet early afternoon thanks to 1) metro area heating and 2) the weak weather system dropping south. This shifts the focus to Mosier-Doug’s, where you’ll find 27-31mph. Between Avery and Arlington: 21-24mph. Hold out a little longer if you want more.
From mid-afternoon on, you’ll find 27-31mph between Mosier and Arlington with 23-26mph east of Arlington to Threemile and Boardman. For the entire afternoon, the Stevenson to Hood River zone will likely be gusty 17-21mph with Stevenson potentially over-performing. High temps: 82 in Hood River and 88 east of The Dalles.
Saturday brings low clouds to the west and sun to the east. Morning wind will be 17-20mph most places from Stevenson to Arlington; the Rowena area is the exception โ 13-16mph there to start the day. Afternoon: 18-21mph from Stevenson to Hood River with 25-28mph from Mosier to Arlington and 17=20mph east of Arlington.
Models are all over the place on Sunday and Monday, enough so that’s it’s difficult to even make a guess. If I had to guess…. perhaps 16-19mph in the Corridor (Viento to Hood River) on Sunday and, well, I’m not going to guess about Monday. About 50% of the euro ensembles hint at a stronger day Tuesday, but again, they’re all over the place and call for anything from less than 15mph to 25-30mph. I’ll leave you there for now. Enjoy your day on the Nch’i Wana!

Good morning, neighbors! Standard-issue Gorge summer weather lingers for the next few days with lots of sunshine and lots of wind. A warming rend of some sort is likely starting Monday, but the amplitude of the warming I unclear โ there’s nearly a 15 degree range in possible high temps starting next Wednesday.
Thursday’s Gorge weather forecast and the weather for our friends around the world
It is Thursday morning, and I need to poop (and complete today’s Wordle). I’ll be right back. I’m back. While I was gone, the temp in Glenwood dropped from 41 โ the answer to Life, The Universe, And Everything โ to 41, a nothing-special number. The rest of us were running 45-62 degrees to start the day. As a weak system (just a few clouds) slides through today, full-on sunshine takes over. Temps rise to 81 in Stevenson; 84 in Hood River, 90 in The Dalles, and 92 in Pasco. West wind will be 20-25mph this morning west of Mosier with 10-15mph to the east. The wind drops to 15mph midday and then returns at 15-20mph this afternoon, but only west of The Dalles. To the east, the wind turns light and variable.
Elsewhere in the world, the millions of people who’ve been directly threatened by the current US administration are enjoying the following sort of weather today:
Bandar-e Mahshahr, Iran: 111, sunny, 12% humidity
Havana, Cuba: 81, sunny, 81% humidity
Muscat, Oman: 101, partly cloudy, 43% humidity
Caracas, Venezuela: 73, partly cloudy, 86% humidity
Nuuk, Greenland: 46, cloudy, 83% humidity
Gaza City: 86, sunny, 56% humidity
Ottawa, Canada: 72, cloudy, 82% humidity
Friday’s Gorge weather forecast
Closer to home on Friday, another minimally-impactful weather system minimally impacts the PNW. We’ll see slightly cooler temps combine with stronger wind. Expect westerlies at 25mph west of Lyle to start (10-15mph to the east) with afternoon westerlies at 20-25mph west of Lyle and 25-30mph between Lyle and the Arlington Triangle and 15-20mph to the east of the Triangle. High temps: 79, 82, 88, 93.
Saturday’s Gorge weather forecast
Saturday looks a little different: low clouds early in the morning west of Hood River combine with a few high clouds and mostly clear sky tot he east. Afternoon: mostly clear. Yes, it’ll be windy again: 15-20mph in the morning all the way from Stevenson to Arlington’s Triangle (whatever that is), and 25-30mph in the afternoon. Highs range from 77F in Stevenson to 79F in Hood River, 85F in The Dalles, and 91F in Pasco.
Extended Gorge weather forecast
Less windy, somewhat warmer conditions are forecast Sunday: 10-15mph wind and 81-90 degree highs. Add 5 degrees of warmth on Monday. Beyond Monday, there’s generally warm weather forecast, but the range of possibilities is too high to formulate a precision forecast. No rain is forecast in the next two weeks. Safe travels. -TATAS
