Thursday Gorge wind forecast & Gorge weather forecast: hot and breezy today. Hot & muggy with thunderstorm potential Friday. Blasting wind Saturday.

Hi friends! Steady-state weather is in the cards today for a steady-state, moderate west wind day. Chaos ensues Friday and Saturday as a combination of a trough (cooler air) and cold front (cold, dry air moving inland) combine to fire off thunderstorms Friday and nuking westerlies on Saturday. Steadier Corridor (near Hood River) westerlies linger…

Keep in mind that this forecast attempts to predict what the iKite/iWind sensors will read. Think like a local! All sensors are not equal. Swell reads low. Viento/Arlington/The Wall read high compared to Swell. 30mph at Rufus (The Wall sensor) is about 23-24mph at Swell. 30mph at Swell is about 35-37mph at Rufus/Viento/Arlington. Hope that helps!

SHORT-TERM gorge wind forecast

Steadier Corridor (near Hood River) westerlies linger in the Gorge wind forecast on Sunday. Easterlies are possible Monday followed by a period of (likely) moderate westerlies, but uncertainty is quite high.

Thursday starts with pressures of 29.94/29.89/29.92. Early wind was 20mph out of the west at Viento with light/variable wind everywhere else. This morning brings 17-20mph from Viento to Hood River for a brief period before heating knocks the wind down. Late morning: 14-17mph from Stevenson to Mosier, eventually filling in to Avery this afternoon. River flow over the last 24 hours was 100-135kcfs, river temp is 71.8F, and high temp forecast is 93F.

How to interpret the Euro Ensemble: this is 50 different initial conditions. If the colors are similar for a given day, forecast certainty is high. If the colors vary wildly, uncertainty is high and you should only use pencil on your calendar.

Excitement is planned on Friday as all sorts of factors combine for atmospheric instability in the afternoon. Early wind will be 11-14mph from Viento to Hood River. By late morning, we’ll have 16-19mph from Stevenson to Hood River with 10-13mph from Mosier to Doug’s. As this system approaches in the afternoon, westerlies build to gusty 202-5mph between Stevenson to Doug’s. Late afternoon wind could even reach 24-27mph from Mosier to Rufus. That said… significant instability is present, and elevated thunderstorms are possible to likely. This may wreak havoc on the wind, and also, you should get off the water if you see storms building โ€“ lightning and you are a bad combo! High temp: 90F in Hood River under cloudy sky.

Westerlies build all night into Saturday morning, when we start with 28-32mph all the way from Stevenson to Boardman. Nuking westerlies continue all day โ€“ east of Hood River, sensor readings are likely to rise to 32-36mph between Mosier and Boardman and linger into late afternoon. After 2pm, areas between Stevenson and Hood River fall to 24-27mph. After 5pm, wind throughout the Gorge drops. High temps: 76 in Hood River, 83 in The Dalles, and 94 in Pasco. Excellent temp gradient!

Westerlies retreat to the Corridor and perhaps near east (Lyle-Doug’s) on Sunday. We’re probably looking at 22-25mph from Stevenson to Mosier or Doug’s. As of this morning, models call for east wind on Monday. Beyond that, quite a bit of uncertainty is present, but the general picture is hinting at some sort of westerlies. Have fun out there. HYPERLOCAL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE

THE DALLES, HOOD RIVER, WHITE SALMON, TROUT LAKE, STEVENSON, CASCADE LOCKS, PARKDALE, ODELL, HUSUM, BZ, MILL A, WILLARD, GOLDENDALE, RUFUS, ARLINGTON, boardman

Good morning, Neighbors! Hot weather is on tap today, and that’s followed by hot, muggy, potentially thunderstormy weather on Friday. Saturday brings super-duper strong west wind all through the Gorge, all the way out into eastern Oregon โ€“ despite cooler temps and higher humidity, fire danger will be extreme. More settled weather is in the cards starting Sunday with seasonable temps and moderate west wind likely for most of next week.

TATAS is still too broken to give you the world roundup of weather, but TATAS is able to talk about Glenwood: it was 47 degrees there this morning. People in Glenwood are so lucky with the cool mornings! By this afternoon, even Glenwood will be hot. Everyone will be hot: 93 in Hood River, 100 in The Dalles, and 97 in Pasco. West wind will be 15-20mph this morning near Hood River with westerlies at 15mph this afternoon between Stevenson and The Dalles or maybe to Avery.

Exciting weather is possible Friday! First, lots and lots of humidity pours into the region. This gives us lots of high and mid-level clouds. We start the day at 60-70+ degrees with mugginess, and the mugginess keeps increasing. Morning wind: mostly light or calm with 10-15mph between Viento and Hood River. A weather system in the afternoon stimulates the atmosphere and potentially sets off elevated thunderstorms. These tend to provide copious lightning, so you should pray for copious rain. As this system approaches, west wind builds to 20-25mph between Stevenson and Rufus and continues to build overnight. Please, please, please can we have no new fire starts. High temps: 90 in Hood River, 95 in The Dalles, and 99 in Pasco.

Much cooler air pushes in to the west side on Saturday while the desert remains hot. During the day, the humidity drops. Morning temps: 60-70. Afternoon: 76 in Hood River (EPIC!!!), 83 in The Dalles (pleasant), and 94 in Pasco (still too hot to fuck). West wind will be 30+ mph right off the bat all the way from Stevenson to Boardman. Please be very careful with anything that could cause sparks โ€“ double-check those trailer chains, don’t toss butts, skip the mowing and weed-whacking. After 5pm, the wind starts to fade, but still… major fire danger day.

Pleasant weather lingers on Sunday โ€“ highs range from 77-86 (Pasco will be happy!) with west wind at 25mph west of The Dalles and light wind to the east. Monday looks warmer โ€“ 85-91 degrees โ€“ with a strong possibility of east wind instead of west. Next week: lots of uncertainty in temps, but no sign of any sort of extreme heat. Pleasant, breezy weather is likely day after day. Safe travels -TATAS
