Gorge Wind Forecast

Saturday brings one last day of west wind before a long-lasting switch to easterlies, and chilly easterlies at that! For Saturday morning gradients were .06 and .06. Ignore that eastern Gorge one, as it will fade quickly. It’s a little unclear what will happen this afternoon – models suggest a switch to east wind, but very strong offshore high pressure could keep just enough west flow going in the western Gorge for a hold at 10-13 from Stevenson to Hood River. East of Hood River, easterlies pick up to 10-13 or so this afternoon. River flow is 74,100cfs and temp is 55 degrees.

Sunday brings a chilly start (mid-30’s) with easterlies at 20-25. They’ll fade to 10-15 (Stevenson) and 15-20 (Rooster) in the afternoon. Monday’s easterlies look lighter – just 10-15 in the morning and calm in the afternoon. Moving on to Tuesday: 40-50 near Rooster Rock, although that could be tamed a bit if the easterlies pour over the Cascades too. Call it 30-35 for sure. It’ll be in the 20’s Tuesday morning, so taking advantage of those easterlies will be tricky! Wednesday’s wind looks like E 30-35.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast was on winter break, but it’s back because of coastal wind… Swell forecast by NWS. Wind: north coast/central coast/south coast. Saturday: 15-20/25-30/35+, W swell 10′ at 11 seconds. Sunday: side-offshore 10-15/20-25/25-30, NW 7′ @ 11. Monday: N15-20/20-25/30-35, W 6′ @ 17 – pure awesomeness, that will be. Go get it!

Road and Mountain Biking

Reports are that Post, Syncline, and Hospital Hill are all brown pow. Do be on the lookout for a cougar with cubs on Hospital Hill. Remember that the southern half of Whoopdee has been logged (is gone). Riding Underwood? No parking at the trailhead – you’ll need to drive ½ mile east of the trailhead and park there. There’s an HRATS trail work party in Post, meeting at Family Man, on 10/26 at 9:30am.
