The free air freezing level will be 6000′ during the day, 5500′ in the evening, and 3000′ when the snow arrives. Just 0.05” water value (WV) of snow falls overnight, for a trace of new. Wind will be W 15-20 durng the day, WSW 10 in the afternoon, and W 40 after midnight.

Sunday looks like a blizzard with lift shutdown potential. The snow level will be 3000′ early, 5000′ for a few hours mid-morning, and then it’ll steadily fall to 1000′ after midnight. About 1.0” WV falls during the day, for 8-10” of new snow. It’ll be relatively dense, as the morning snow level will be high and 5000′ temps will be right around freezing. Another 0.5” WV falls overnight, for 4-6” of drier snow. Wind will be W 40 early, WSW 60 mid-morning, W 55 in the afternoon and evening (bye-bye lifts) and WNW 40 after midnight.

Mostly clear, mostly above-freezing weather is the forecast for next week with a chance of some light precip on Wednesday. Enjoy the fresh snow, and enjoy the extended sunshine!

Gorge Wind Forecast

West wind has returned to the Gorge to start the day Saturday, and those westerlies will stick around for a few days. For Saturday, expect 10-13 through the whole Gorge to start the day. The wind will go calm east of Moiser this afternoon and hold at 10-13 from Stevenson to Hood River. Sunday looks exciting! A 994mb low moves inland along the Canadian Border. High pressure builds offshore. A cold front swings through. While the day starts out dead calm, it’ll climb to gusty 15-25 in the west and 30-50 east of The Dalles by early afternoon. Late in the afternoon, the wind will fill in to gusty 26-32 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Expect a giant day east of John Day Dam all the way to Boardman.

Westerlies back off to 13-16 Monday morning, extending all the way from Stevenson to Arlington. The wind builds to 20-23 in the afternoon as strong offshore high pressure holds. High pressure moves inland on Tuesday giving us easterlies at 30-35 from Rooster to Viento.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.
