Mt. Hood Forecast
Nuking wind has lifts on hold this morning on Mt. Hood, but the weather should calm enough for slope-shredding this afternoon. Following today, it’s all sun, all the time, for at least a week. Diving deeper into Saturday’s details, we see disruptive morning wind and light snowfall that lasts through mid-afternoon. The snow level will start around 2500′ and will drop to 1500′ by afternoon. About 0.1” to 0.2” water equivalent (WE) is forecast, for an inch or two of new snow. Wind: WNW 45-55 in the morning fades to NW 15-25 in the afternoon and light-and-variable overnight.
Sunday starts clear and sunny and stays that way. The free air freezing level will be 0′ in the morning and 3000′ from afternoon on through the evening. NO precip. Wind: light and variable early, E 10 in the afternoon, and E 15-25 overnight.
Monday will be sunny. The freezing level will be 3000′ in the morning, 4500′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ after midnight. Wind: E 15-20 in the morning, NE 15-20 in the afternoon, and NE 40-50 overnight. Lift ops Tuesday morning will likely be affected by the easterlies, especially at Timberline which always seems to bear the brunt of that wind direction. Rest of the week: sunny with moderate east wind. Enjoy the spring skiing!
Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Offshore high pressure at 1034mb on Saturday morning combines with a cold front swinging through the area for strong, gusty westerlies. Morning wind will be in the 10-15 range in the west (exception Viento: 20-30) with gusty 20-27 in the eastern gorge. Give it a few hours, and the wind will rise to gusty 14-17 in the west and gusty 25-29 from The Dalles to Arlington. River flow is 143kcfs. River temp is 47F. High temp forecast is 54F.
Sunday starts calm and sub-freezing. Afternoon wind rises to E 10-15 from Rooster to Viento with E5 east of Hood River. Monday starts with E 20-25 at Stevenson and 25-30 at Rooster. Afternoon wind drops to 10-15 in the western Gorge and picks up to NE 10-15 from Hood River eastward to Arlington. Easterlies will probably continue through at least midday Friday.

Partly to mostly cloudy sky this morning stays that way with occasional sprinkles in the morning. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and mid 50’s later. Moderate westerlies. 72% chance of rainbows. Sunday will be sunny with a frosty morning. Temps will be near 30 early and in the mid-upper 50’s later. Light wind early. Light easterlies later. No rainbows. Monday will also be sunny (as will the rest of the week). Temps will be right at freezing early and in the low 60’s later. Light to moderate easterlies. No rainbows.
