Gorge Wind Forecast

Once again, the models are bouncing around as active fall weather takes a toll on long-range accuracy. We’re now looking at three or four days of westerlies, with today (Saturday) being the lightest of the bunch.

Light easterlies, 10-15mph at Viento, start Saturday with light and variable wind elsewhere. That’s about all we’ll see today. Late in the afternoon or early evening, we could see a little burst of 11-14 from Stevenson to Swell or Hood River. River flow is 81,000cfs, river temp is 64F, and high temp forecast is 73F.

Sunday sees a front offshore. That’ll give the wind speed a nudge upwards. Expect 13-16 from Viento to Mosier to start the day with 5-10 to the east of Mosier. The day also starts chilly – mid 40’s. By late morning or early afternoon, the wind jumps to gusty 17-20 from Stevenson to Mosier with 11-14 near Lyle and light/variable wind in the eastern Gorge. High temp: 75F.

Monday benefits from that front swinging through. High pressure builds offshore and lends a helping hand. The day starts with 10-13 from Viento to Swell with nothing to the east. Midday: 17-20 from Stevenson to Mosier with 5-10 out to Arlington. After 2pm, models suggest a bump to gusty 23-27 from Hood River or Mosier to Arlington with 12-15 in the western Gorge. High temp: 71. Note, that is the last 70 degree day in the forecast for a couple of weeks, and could be the last one of the year. Make the most of it!
