Gorge Wind Forecast

The accuracy of weather models multiple days out fades as we sink deeper into the active weather season. This three day stretch is no exception, as you’ll recognize if you’ve been following the forecast daily. We’re now looking at three days of marginal wind followed by a chance for somewhat stronger westerlies on Monday morning.

Friday sees high pressure building inland. While that does give us sunshine, it’ll also give us a distinct lack of wind. The morning starts with 5-10 most locations and 10-15 at Viento (which reads a bit high). The wind fades and turns calm midday. In the afternoon, you’ll find easterlies at 10mph from Stevenson to Viento. River flow is 84,300cfs, river temp is 65F, and high temp forecast is 68F.

Saturday sees that high pressure holding inland, but an approaching front will give the westerlies a slight nudge. Morning wind will be easterly at 10mph from Stevenson to Viento. As that system moves closer, the wind turns around, perhaps around noon. You’ll then find westerlies at 11-14 or so from Stevenson to Hood River with light easterlies to the east. High temp: 73F. Sunday starts with 10-13 form Stevenson to Swell with 5-10 out east. The wind might bump up to 12-15 in the western Gorge in the afternoon. High temp: 74F. If you have faith in the longer-range models, you’re looking at 16-19 on Monday. Have a great weekend! And remember that there’s still non-conforming sewage water at The Hook.
