Mt. Hood Forecast

Winter has been notably absent for the last couple of weeks, but it’s making one last showing today and tomorrow. After that? A couple dry days followed by a possible round of warmer, wet weather.

Looking at Saturday, we see snowflakes! The snow level will be 3000′ in the morning, 4500′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ overnight. About 0.2” water equivalent (WE) is expected during the day, for a couple inches of new snow. Another .35” WE is forecast overnight, for 3-4” fresh. Wind: W 15-20 in the morning, SW 10-15 in the afternoon, and W 20-25 overnight.

Sunday brings light snowfall in the morning and partly cloudy sky in the afternoon. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning, 4500′ in the afternoon, and back to 2500′ after midnight. Just a trace is forecast during the day, and another trace is possible overnight. Wind: W 20-25 in the morning, W 15 in the afternoon, and W 20 overnight.

Sunny sky Monday morning gives way to partly cloudy sky with a few flurries in the afternoon. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 3000′ after midnight. No accumulation of new snow. Wind: W 25 in the morning, W 15 in the afternoon, and SW 10-20 overnight. Tuesday looks sunny in the morning with high clouds in the afternoon. Wednesday looks warmer with light rain. Get it while you can. Ski season is nearing an end!

Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.

Gorge Wind Forecast

A more active weather pattern for the PNW is in the cards this week, and that means several rounds of gusty, moderate westerlies for you. Saturday’s drizzle arrives with gradients of .04 and .07. That’ll set us up for gusty 12-15 everywhere to start the day. In the afternoon, western Gorge wind reacts to the drizzle by dropping to 5-10. You’ll still find gusty 12-15 in the eastern Gorge. River flow is 170kcfs, river temp is 51F, and high temp forecast is 57F.

Sunday starts with light westerlies in the west and 12-15 east of The Dalles. You’ll find gusty 17-20 from Mosier to Arlington in the afternoon. High temp: 61F. Monday starts with 10-13 in the west and 18-22 from The Dalles to Arlington. Afternoon westerlies drop to 10-13 west of The Dalles and pick up to 22-25 east of there. High temp: 60F.

Coast, Jones, Sauvie’s
