Gorge Wind Forecast

Moderate westerlies start the week. They’ll stick around for three days, and then strong westerlies replace them. In other words, we’re looking at seven straight days of westerlies at 15mph or more. Like it? Read on!

Offshore high pressure on Monday takes a positive tilt and stays that way for about three days. That sets the Gorge up for somewhat gusty, but warm, Corridor westerlies. Monday starts with gradients of 0.07 and 0.02. Westerlies will be in the 12-15 range through the morning at Swell. West of swell and east to The Dalles, you’ll find 7-10 or so. In the afternoon, the wind picks up to up-and-down 20-23 from Stevenson to The Dalles. River flow is 228kcfs. River temp is 53F. High temp forecast: 72F.

Tuesday sees a similar setup, but high clouds move in during the afternoon. As usual, this increases the gustiness of the wind. The day starts with 11-14 from Viento to Swell with 7-10 west of there and 7-10 east to The Dalles. It appears the wind may drop a bit midday, but it’ll return at 17-20 from Viento to The Dalles in the afternoon. Stevenson looks likely to drop to 12-15. High temp: 77F.

Wednesday looks even warmer, and the wind looks stronger. No complaints about that! The day starts with 9-12 from Viento to Mosier with 5-10 at Stevenson and light wind east of Mosier. Late morning sees the wind pick up to 20-23 form Stevenson to The Dalles. All signs point to a bit of driving on Wednesday afternoon; the strong wind builds to 22-26 and shifts to Mosier to Rufus. West of Mosier: 12-15. East of Rufus: 7-10. High temp: 81F.

Cooler air moves into the western half of the state and high pressure holds offshore Thursday through at least Sunday. Westerlies for that period range form the mid 20’s to low 30’s with high temps in the mid 60’s. Hopefully you’re in windsport shape, because it’s going to be a great week. Have fun!
