Gorge Wind Forecast

Light wind starts off the day on Monday. That’s your only light wind chance for the next 72 hours, which is probably music to your ears. We’ll see westerlies in the 5mph zone for Monday morning. Thermal assistance kicks in around 2pm. Westerlies rise to 14-17 from Stevenson to Hood River. Onshore flow really gets going in the evening. We’ll see westerlies pick up to 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles. River flow is 144kcfs and temp is 68 degrees. High temp: 90.

Tuesday looks even windier as marine clouds push farther inland and Hood River’s high temp drops into the upper 70’s. Morning wind starts at 24-27 from Viento to Arlington with 20-23 near Rowena and 12-15 east of there. Afternoon westerlies pick up to 27-30 from Stevenson to Threemile. Given the presence of a weak offshore disturbance, the Rufus stretch will probably perform better than the Swell zone. High temp: 79.

Westerlies continue on Wednesday. Dawn Patrol wind starts with 16-19 from Viento to Hood River. We’ll see a quick build to 22-25 from Stevenson to Rufus with 11-14 east of there. High temp: 77. Thursday and Friday bring westerlies in the mid 20’s. It appears the weather will heat up and possibly shut down the wind on the weekend.

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death.

Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Some of you will be tempted to go out backcountry skiing. Please don’t – accidents do happen, and you may put others at risk. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.
