Gorge Wind Forecast

A couple of weather systems early this week give us a couple days of gusty westerlies. High pressure builds in the desert for the rest of the week. East wind and colder weather result. For Monday, expect light and variable wind in the morning. As a cold front approaches today, westerlies pick up. By noon, we should have gusty 20-23 from Stevenson to Mosier. As clouds and rain move in this afternoon, the wind drops to 11-14 in the west and picks up to gusty 25-28 east of the Dalles, as far east as Arlington. River flow is 74,300cfs and temp is 60 degrees.

Tuesday starts with the aftereffects of the Monday weather system and sees a bump in the afternoon due to another incoming weather system. Morning wind will be light westerlies in the west and gusty 21-24 from Moiser to Arlington. Afternoon wind picks up to 10-13 in the west and gusty 24-27 from Rowena to Arlington.

Wednesday starts light and variable and quite chilly. Easterlies build to 15-20 during the day. Stronger easterlies, in the 30-40 range near Rooster and Stevenson, stick around for Thursday and Friday.

Road and Mountain Biking

HRATS have a trail work party meeting on Saturday the 12th at Family Man Staging Area at 9:30am. There’s brown pow out there everywhere, so go get it. Logging is finished on the Whoopdee trail. The southern 1/3 of the trail is gone, but you are welcome to go up there and ride and check it out. Ronnoc trail is still open and good to go, as is the climb out.

130,140, Borderline, and the jump trails in the 150 area are closed for timber harvesting. Upper 8 Track is now closed due to logging. Motorized use is now permitted in Post (thanks, rain!), east side and Middle Mountain. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill, which means your dog can come along.
