Gorge Wind Forecast

I woke up quite early this morning, and the Dawn Patrol was already happening at the Hatchery at 18-22. While the models suggest the wind will back off today, I think it’ll at least hold through midday. Let’s go with 21-24 through 1pm from Viento to Mosier early and Stevenson to Mosier late morning. As flow turns more northerly this afternoon and the clouds burn off, the wind will likely back down to 16-19. River temp is 55 degrees. Flow is 500,000cfs.

Tuesday looks warmer as high pressure builds over the northwest for a day. The GFS likes the idea of zero wind. The ECMWF likes the idea of 10-13. With higher pressure offshore than inland, I think we’ll have W 5-10. Maybe. Things looks more clear on Wednesday. Marine clouds push into Portland giving us a low-level stable layer below unstable mid and upper level air. This setup will make the wind gusty, especially as we may see thunderclouds in the afternoon. Wednesday starts with 19-23 from Viento to Hood River. In the afternoon, we’ll have gusty 24-27 from Stevenson to The Dalles.

General picture for the rest of the week: 24-27 Thursday, 21-24 Friday, big days (possibly out East) with the possibility of thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. The long range forecast tends to be unreliable, but models do agree on the general picture for next weekend, so let’s keep an eye on it!

BONUS: Jones Monday: 19-22. Tuesday: 19-22. Wednesday: 22-25. Sauvie’s Monday: 12-15 late. Tuesday: 17-20. Wednesday: 5-10. Coast (north/central/south). Monday: 15-20/20-25/30-35, W swell 4′ at 10 seconds. Tuesday: 10-15/15-20/20-25, W 5′ @ 9. Wednesday: 5-10 everywhere, W 6′ @ 12.
