Monday. Ah yeah, warm weather. Get some!

2015-07-01_14-28-41 M=A R=8 S=4
It definitely didn’t snow on Mt. Hood yesterday. Quite the opposite, in fact. It rained and rained and rained. It’ll be partly cloudy this (Monday) morning, becoming sunny this afternoon and cloudy overnight. The free air freezing level will be 10,000’+ today, dropping to 6500′ by Tuesday morning. Wind today will be W 55 early, slowly fading to W 40-45 in the afternoon and evening. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Tuesday starts of cloudy with precip moving in by 7am and ending by 4pm. The snow level Tuesday will be 6500′ early, dropping to 5500′ with the precip and rising to 10,000′ by Wednesday morning. The snow level is borderline for this one, but I’m leaning towards wet snow. So, we’ll see .2” water value (WV) between 7am and 4pm, for 1” of wet new snow. Wind on Tuesday will be W 40 early, dropping to W 25 mid-morning and turning to SW 10-15 in the afternoon.

Wednesday starts out cloudy, sees sprinkles by mid-morning and heavier rain after 4pm. The snow level will be 10,000′ early, falling to 5000′ at the tail end of the afternoon weather system. We’ll see .1” sprinkles between 10am and 4pm. That’ll be followed by .5” WV that starts as rain and possibly (although not certainly) switches to snow. Expect 1-2” of snow out of this system, followed by mostly cloudy sky overnight. Wind on Wednesday will be S 10 in the morning, rising to S 15 in the afternoon and evening.

It currently looks like we’ll see a brief shot of heavy precip on Thursday, approximately .5-.7” WV. The snow level looks borderline at this point, somewhere right around 5000-6000′, so let’s wait and see for a day or two.

Gorge Wind Forecast

This morning brings solid westerly gradients of .13 (pdx-dls) and .06 (dls-psc). That’ll be enough for westerlies at 23-26 this morning from Swell to Doug’s with 13-16 further east. We’ll see the wind slowly back down as the day goes on, possibly staying as strong as 20-23 this afternoon from Swell to Doug’s, and possibly not. Tuesday starts with W 5-10 and turns to E 10-15 in the afternoon. Wednesday starts with E 20-30 and switches to W wind after 4pm.

Random Morning Thoughts

I talk a lot about the Cartesian split, the concept that the mind and body are separate. It’s an unfortunate thing we’ve done, assigning our voice to our heads and silence to our bodies. Bodies can speak too – you just need to know how to listen and translate what they are saying.

Muscle tension, for example, is a body’s way of saying it wants something. Perhaps the body wants to run away from something. Perhaps it wants someone else to help carry a burden. Perhaps it just wants to take a break from everything. It’s hard to know, unless you ask it.

See if there’s some spot in your body that feels really tense right now. Not sore because you did yesterday’s WOD, pushing tractor tires down the street or something. Tense. Go investigate that tension. Get really up close and personal with it. Let your entire focus be on that spot. When you’ve really spent some time there, ask it what it needs. Or notice if there’s something you want to do from that place of tension. Or ask it what it has to say. Spend some time with the answer, because it’s probably important if your body was speaking to you about it.

Yeah, it sounds weird, but it works. Your body is talking to you all the time. It wants to be heard. All you have to do is perk up and listen. You’ll probably learn some awesome things about yourself if you do. Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking

Given how much it rained yesterday, and given the fact that Post was really muddy when I went jogging, it will be too muddy to ride today. Syncline is a maybe. The road biking will be a bit on the windy side, but with temps in the mid 50’s to low 60’s today, it’s going to be a nice day to be in the saddle. Same goes for tomorrow, minus the wind.
