Gorge Wind Forecast

Light east wind sticks around for the next few days. Models are coming in to agreement around a west wind day on Monday, but there’s a lot of variety in the predictions of how strong those westerlies will be. They may stick around early on Tuesday, but after that, high pressure and light wind return, most likely.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be essentially the same as a blocking pattern sets up offshore. Easterlies rise to 15-20 mid-morning, drop to 15 early afternoon, and fall a bit more later in the day. Rooster finishes up at 10-15, and Viento/Stevenson end the day at 10mph or so.

Slightly stronger wind is possible on Saturday morning; Rooster starts at 20-25 and the Viento to Stevenson stretch brings you 15-20. The wind lasts a little longer than on Friday, but it eventually drops to 10-15 at Rooster and 10 from Viento to Stevenson. At this point, Sunday looks exactly like Friday. Reefer to the prior paragraph for your forecast!

An approaching frontal system on Monday is likely to bring some welcome westerlies. The ensembles are all over the place on how windy it will be. It could be not-so-windy, and it could be very-windy. Chances are good there will be enough wind to get you on the river, and chances are good it will be focused near Hood River. Let’s take another look on Sunday – I have plans tomorrow morning and won’t be able to do a forecast. Have a great weekend of easterlies!

It’s dusty out there… Hood River County has reopened motorized use for trails in the NW Area (Post, Kingsley, Binn’s Hill). Other HRC trails are still closed. These trails are closed to all uses, and some might not have signage saying they are closed: Hospital Hill, Underwood, Whoopdee, and any lands Owned or Managed by American Forest Management, Broughton Lumber Company, DGS Timber, Green Diamond, Kreps Ranch, Kreps Family LLC, Lupine Forest, Manulife Forest Management, Twin Creeks Timber, and Western Pacific Timber, LLC in Klickitat, Skamania, Stevens, Yakima, Hood River and Wasco counties.

The road connecting Plains of Abraham to Smith Creek closes at noon Monday-Friday and will not be open to bikers during that time.
