Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
The most recent round of “weather” on Mt. Hood dropped about a foot and a half of snow. That makes today, Friday, our first true powder day of the season. Get it now, because there’s basically no precipitation in the forecast until the latter half of next week.For Friday, snow flurries in the morning give way to clear sky by afternoon. The snow level will be 3000′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ overnight. A trace to 0.1” water value (WV) falls in the morning, for up to 1” of additional snow. Wind will be W 30 early, W 15-20 in the afternoon, and WNW 25-30 overnight.
Saturday looks clear. The free air freezing level will be 1000′-1500′ during the day and 0′-1000′ overnight. Wind will be WNW 25-30 early, WNW 10 in the afternoon, and NW 15 overnight. Sunday looks clear. The freezing level will be 0′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon, and back to 0′ overnight. Wind will be NW 15 all day and WNW 10 overnight. Similar weather Monday: sunny and cold with the freezing level at 500′ or so.
The next round of precipitation is slated for Thursday into Friday, but models are all over the place on whether that precip will strike us, Washington, California… you get the picture. It does appear that the precip will be coming out of the SW and will thus be of marginal temperature for snow. We’re going to have to wait and see. Until then… Friday’s a powder day and the next five days look excellent for groomed runs and Nordic.
Gorge Wind Forecast
Light and variable wind on Friday morning should turns to light westerly at 5-8 or less today. River flow is 89,700cfs and temp is 45 degrees. Saturday starts with light west wind and picks up to W 8-11 through the entire Gorge. Same on Sunday: calm early and W 8-11 later. Easterlies build during the day Monday and end up in the 40-60 range on Tuesday.COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Sunday looks partly cloudy in the morning and then sunny. Temps will be right at freezing early and near 40 in the afternoon. Calm wind early. Light westerlies later. No rainbows. Reports say that Hospital Hill is a freeze-thaw mess up top. That means Whoopdee is likely the same. With all the rain in the last few days, Post will be too muddy to ride. Don’t do it, or you’ll damage the trails. Try Syncline for the best results. Gravel grinding on the dirt roads is also a good option, as is road biking the Petersburg Loop in The Dalles.Upcoming Events
