Good morning!

If we don’t get some real weather soon, I’m not going to remember how to write a forecast once the weather returns!

Mountain Weather Forecast:

Yay!!! It’s snowing!!! I was hoping for more snow overnight, but the mountain had made previous arrangements with freezing rain for the evening. Now, though, she’s 100% in for snow all day long today.

We’ll see .5” WV between now and 4pm today, for 5-7” of snow with the snow level at 2000’, dropping to 1500’ by tonight. Winds at 5000’ today will be quite strong, starting at WSW 35-45 and going to W 35-45. At least we’re not seeing the 60-100mph wind that Mission Ridge had last night! Snow continues overnight tonight, with another .4-.5” of WV for another 4-6” of snow by 10am tomorrow morning before snow tapers off.

Tomorrow starts off with snow flurries, but those will end by 10am or so. After that, we’ll see partly cloudy, possibly even clear skies, for an amazing day on the hill. It will be cold tomorrow, with the free air freezing level around 1500-2000’. Winds will be W 5-15 to start, fading to light and variable or north 5-10 by afternoon. Unfortunately, I am picking someone up at the airport at 11am and am going to miss the fun.

Wednesday looks dry, cold and calm. Thursday looks dry, clear and warm, with highs in the 40’s on the hill. All the models indicate we’ll see another solid round of snowfall next weekend, starting either Friday or Saturday.

Gorge Wind Forecast:

Today looks like your best chance for wind in the next three days. The Portland to The Dalles gradient is at .19 right now, with more out east. I have no idea where the cloud line is, so just start driving. Get it early, because the wind will taper off early. Even so, you should be able to catch a 30ish dawn patrol at Doug’s, Maryhill or Arlington. If you can’t go until later, you’ll still have a shot at 23-26 for much of the day east of The Dalles.

Have an awesome day today!

2/6 Forecast

Good morning!

Mountain Weather Forecast

Apparently if I say it’s going to snow and stay nice, like I did yesterday, it will rain. Today I’ll predict some rain instead and see if it stays nice.

The mostly clear skies we had this morning are going to give way quickly to cloudy skies and some light rain. We’ll see light rain sprinkles between 11am and 7pm with the snow level at 6000’, rising to 7000’ by 4pm and falling to 5000’ by 7pm, rapidly falling to 3000’ by Monday morning. Winds today will be NW 25-35, rising to W 35-45 around 4pm, rising further to W 45-55 by midnight. Total precip during the day will be around .1”-.2”. We’ll see another .5” or so after the snow level falls tonight, for 4-6” of new snow by 7am.

Light snow continues Monday morning, with the snow level at 3000’ by 4am, falling to 2000’ by 4am. Winds tomorrow will be quite strong, out of the WNW at 45-50 slowly dropping to NW 40mph by 4pm. Total water value between 4am Monday and 4am Tuesday will be .75-1” for 8-12” of new snow. =) =) =) If you’re headed to the mountain, dress for wind and cold.

Light snow flurries continue Tuesday morning before the sky becomes clear. Total accumulation will be around 1” on Tuesday. Winds will be light and variable, with temperatures in the low twenties on the slopes. Wednesday looks dry and cold.

If long term models hold, we’re headed back into normal winter next weekend, with significant snowfall. =) =) =)

Gorge Wind Forecast

Increasing westerlies today pick up into the 18-22 range late this afternoon, building into the 30+ range from Stevenson to the Idaho border overnight. If you want it tomorrow morning, get it early, and I mean sunrise early, because the strong wind will fade quickly. By midday, winds will be in the 14-17 range in the Central Gorge and 23-26 range out east. Westerlies in the 16-20 range will hold at Roosevelt all day Monday. Tuesday looks light, and so does Wednesday.

Have a great day!
