Good morning,

We’re back to winter for the next couple of days with wet weather and low snow levels. The snow level will drop to 5000’ by 2pm today and fall to 3000’ tomorrow. The best day for skiing will be Friday.

If you’d rather do something more seasonal like windsurfing or kiting, today looks like the best day of the next three. The wind will be light this morning, but as the low pressure system moves east mid-afternoon, the wind will pick up at Maryhill and Arlington, blowing in the 26-30 range. It’s going to happen late, and it’s only going to last a few hours, so be ready. As a matter of fact, it might not even happen at all before dark, so keep your fingers crossed, and again, be ready.

Tomorrow looks wet with light wind early. As another system moves east in the afternoon, the wind will pick up to 17-20 east of The Dalles. Friday looks light in the morning with another round of gusty 17-20 in the eastern Gorge in the afternoon. If you were wondering, the Columbia is now at 54 degrees and is flowing at 490,000 cfs which is triple the summer level.

Coming up tonight, there’s the very wet kayak shed shop paddle on the white salmon, which is around 4.5ft. There’s also sailboat racing out of Hood River. Tomorrow and Friday there will be free Ellsworth demos at Post Canyon, and this weekend’s the Super D, so you may want to avoid Mitchell Ridge and the bottom of Seven Streams.

And finally, if you’re a road rider, you’ll be happy to know the 44 road is open at least until it snows up there tomorrow and Friday.

On the river, the Hood is at 4.8 feet, and the Klickitat’s still rocking along at 3300 cfs. It’s going to be big whitewater everywhere this weekend!

Good morning,

It’s a lovely morning out there with some little fluffy clouds in the sky and clearing on the way today. The setup looks pretty good on the radar, and the desert will get a jump on the heating today, but larger weather features will conspire to keep the windspeed down. A big low pressure system rotates off the coast and a cold front approaches this afternoon. So, I think we’ll see low teens during the day today slowly tapering down to 10 or so early afternoon, then picking up to 17-21 late in the day from Stevenson to Rowena, and then at Arlington very late.

It’s going to rain tomorrow. It’s going to rain hard. It’s going to rain .75-.1” or so, with 1-1.5” in the mountains. Sure you could go windsurfing or kiting, but you’re going to have wet and gusty 14-17. In addition, it’s going to be chilly. The snow level will be 6000’ during the day Wednesday, dropping to 3000’ by Thursday morning.

The wind on Thursday morning looks like, picking up late in the day. It looks rainy and wet, at least in the western Gorge, with the snow level remaining below 5000’ on Thursday and Friday. Friday might be a nice day for skinning and skiing.

Remember your events: Kayak Shed shop paddle tomorrow, sailboat racing tomorrow, Post and Pint Super D shuttle on Thursday.

A heads up: There will be a lot of downhillers riding the Super D on Friday and Saturday (the race is Sunday), so you may want to ride elsewhere. Ellsworth demos are Thursday and Friday. If you want to do something fun this weekend, I 100% recommend rafting, because we’re going to get a ton of rain and snowmelt the next few days, and the rivers will be way up.
