Good morning,

Again, thank you to all of you who voted for me in Grant’s photo contest. We won! My new Icelantic skis (made in Colorado) are happily awaiting mounting, and I’ll be going for a ride in a Subaru rally car (courtesy of Dick Hannah Subaru… thanks, guys!) on Friday.

Good morning. Be glad you’re not a Meadows employee. Today is employee ski day, and let me assure you that it’s miserable up here on Mt. Hood. At lodge level, it’s pouring rain, sideways. Supposedly it’s a mixed up mess up high with icing on structures (meaning freezing rain or snain). Oh joy. At least there’s a good sale in the shop and good raffle prizes!

Meadows has just called it for the season: one more weekend, May 5th and 6th, and then no more Meadows for the season. Timberline is open for spring pass usage through the 28th of May. Passes are $110.

If you’re looking for something to do tonight, the surf movie Splinters is playing at Andrew’s. Actually, it’s playing four nights this week, but they’re hyping the 8:20pm showing tonight. That’s way past my bedtime, so maybe you can go for me? This is a benefit for the Surfrider foundation, dedicated to saving beaches and surf breaks around the world. Thanks to Everybody’s for donating a keg, so if you go to the movie and buy beer, it benefits Surfrider!

Coming up this week in events, there’s sailboat racing on Wednesday at the Hood River Marina (show up with a 6-pack to get on a boat) and the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle on the Lower White Salmon, taking out at the new takeout at the former Northwestern Lake Park. The girls who dig dirt have a work party this week. For more information, email me.

In your wind forecast, nothing this morning becomes 15-18 near Hood River and 26-30 east of The Dalles this afternoon, with good wind at Maryhill and Arlington (and maybe Doug’s/Rowena too, but I don’t know). Tomorrow we’ll have leftover westerlies at 17-20. Then Wednesday brings light east wind and Thursday brings stronger east wind before another low pressure system blasts across the Northwest.

I’m going to go ski in the rain now. Have a nice day!

Have an awesome day today!

4/29 Wind Forecast – Thanks for a great snow season!

Good morning,

First off, thank you to all of you who voted for me in Grant’s photo contest. We won! My new Icelantic skis (made in Colorado) are happily awaiting mounting, and I’ll be going for a ride in a Subaru rally car (courtesy of Dick Hannah Subaru… thanks, guys!) on Friday.

That said, it’s the last day of regular season operations at Mt. Hood Meadows, and that means we’re basically done with the snow forecast for the season, unless I see something worth hiking for in the forecast. Oh, and if Meadows is open for extended weekends, I’ll post Thur-Sun forecasts, or maybe Fri-Sun forecast. It’s Customer Appreciation Day at Skibowl with free skiing (bring four cans of food if you want to do the right thing). So, it’s time for a more consistent wind forecast. Hopefully that means more consistent wind!

The Columbia River is now at 50 degrees (or was it 51?). Anyway, even wimpy people can go in the river now! That includes me, by the way. The gradient at 5am was at .06, and that’s going to be enough for some wind today. W 5-10 this morning builds to 15-18, possibly 17-21, near Hood River this afternoon. There’s a big low off the coast limiting wind strength, but high pressure off the Cali coast is helping us out.

Tomorrow starts off light and rainy, but then that low pressure system crosses the Cascades and sends the wind to 17-21 near Hood River and 26-30+ east of The Dalles. On Tuesday, we have west wind at 17-21 and on Wednesday, we’ll have light wind.

Today is the first annual Cherry Blossom Duathlon, brought to you by Water’s Edge as part of the Cherry Blossom Fitness Festival. It’s a 5k run, a 30k bike ride, and another 5k run.

If you like surf movies, come to the Skylight Theater tomorrow night for the movie Splinters. It’s not often that good surf movie comes out, so you’ll want to be there for this one. Plus, it’s a benefit for Surfrider foundation, protecting your beaches and surf breaks!

Have an awesome day today!
