Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Mt. Hood picked up about 18” of snow over the last couple of days, and it was dry, light, fluffy powder. Holy moly was it busy up there on Friday! Expect a busy weekend as well. We’ll continue to pick up snow, but it’ll be denser, heavier, and less plentiful. Still, it’s gorgeous up there. You should go!
Friday night into Saturday morning brings a little snow or mixed precip after midnight – temps at 850mb will be well above freezing on the west side and below freezing on the east. Makes for a tricky p-type call. Either way… just 0.05 water equivalent overnight for a trace of something. On Saturday, the snow level will be 0′, and it’ll be cloudy all day. About 0.3” WE is forecast during the day for 2-3” new snow. There could be a bit of ice mixed in. By afternoon, temps settle in around 0C at 5000′ (low 30’s). Overnight, another 0.2” to 0.3” WE is forecast for 1-3” additional dense snow at 5000′. Wind: S 15-30 in the morning, S 10-20 in the afternoon, and WSW 10 after midnight.
Snow continues on Sunday with the snow level at 0′ near Mt. Hood and 850mb (~5000′) temps hovering around 0C to +1C, or 31-33F. About 0.5” WE is forecast during the day. Call it 2-4” dense snow. Overnight, another 0.2” WE is in the cards. That’s 1-2” of new. Wind: WSW 10 prior to sunrise, W 25 midday, WSW 15-20 in the afternoon, and S 20-40 overnight (E 25 down low).
Light snow Monday morning gives way to partly/mostly cloudy sky and temps in the mid 30’s in the afternoon. Just a trace of precip is forecast. That’ll likely be snow early and mist later. Wind will be S 20-40 in the morning, SSW 15-25 in the afternoon, and SW 20-40 overnight. A trace of snow is forecast Tuesday and a bit more Tuesday night. The snow level looks like it’ll hold between 4000′ and 5000′ through most of next week. Fingers crossed! More snow is on the way! Enjoy!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Easterlies hang around for a few days, at least. For Saturday, Iwash (Rooster) Rock starts at 50 and drops to 45-50. Stevenson starts with 35 and drops to 30-35. River flow Friday was 100-143kcfs, river temp is 40.64F, and high temp forecast is mid 30’s. Snow in the morning. Dry in the afternoon. Sunday will be snainy/snowy/rainy. Easterlies starts at 30-35 at Iwash, drop to 10-15 in the afternoon, and build overnight. Stevenson starts at 20-25, drops to 10ish, and climbs to 35 overnight. High temp: low 40’s. Monday will be snowy or rainy early then dry from mid-morning on. Easterlies start at 35-40 at Iwash and Stevenson. Afternoon wind falls to 30 at Iwash and 20-25 at Stevenson. High temp: low 40’s.

There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
As I was writing this, Meadows and Timberline had picked up about 13” in the storm cycle. They’ll get some more snow tonight (Thursday night), although there’s a chance of some freezing rain mixed in. A mostly dry Friday and Friday night gives way to more snow on Saturday and into Sunday, although temps will be on the rise. We’ll talk more about that later.
For Thursday night, the snow level will be around 1500′, and it’ll drop to 500′ overnight. About 0.4” WE is expected, for 4-5” dry powder. Wind will be W 10 turning variable to 10 overnight. Friday starts with light snow and turns cloudy. The snow level will be 500′-1000′ early. About an inch of snow is expected early in the morning. In the afternoon, we see warm air moving in from the west and cold air entrenched in the east under cloudy sky with dry weather. The most common scenario with this is temps bouncing around a bit. It does seem like the slopes are likely to stay subfreezing, although temps will rise from 20ish in the morning to 30ish in the afternoon. A trace of mixed precip is possible after midnight. Wind: W 10 in the morning turning to SW 5-15 in the afternoon and SW 15-30 overnight.
Saturday sees a bit of struggle with competing air masses. Best precip guess is snow turning to wet snow. The snow level will be 0′ near Mt. Hood and the Gorge with temps at 850mb (5000′ or so) hovering right around freezing. About 0.3” to 0.4” water equivalent (WE) arrives during the day for 3-4” of dense snow. Another 0.2” WE is in the cards overnight for 1-2” more as temps rise just above freezing. Wind: S 15-30 during the day fades to SW 5-10 overnight. Sunday currently looks snowy, but the snow level will hover right around 5000′. Wind: light to moderate. We’ll dive in deeper tomorrow and see how the temp forecast for Sunday is faring. Models suggest warming weather Monday into Tuesday. All that said, Friday looks pretty darn good for anything you want to do on the mountain!

Hi friends. Easterlies continues for the next four days, at least. On Friday, we starts with 35 at Stevenson and 45ish at Iwash (Rooster) Rock. Afternoon wind rises to 35-40 at Stevenson and 55 at Iwash. River flow Thursday was 84-132kcfs, river temp is 40.46F, and high temp forecast is 38F under cloudy sky. Saturday starts with 35-40 at Stevenson and drops to 30. Iwash starts at 50+ and drops to 40ish. High temp: 37F with mixed wintry precip turning to cold rain. Sunday starts with 20-25 at Stevenson and 30-35 at Iwash. The wind drops to 15-20 in the afternoon. High temp: upper 30’s with drizzle in the morning and mostly cloudy sky in the afternoon.
