Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Sunday
Monday
Tuesday

Good morning!

Today looks lovely. High overcast sky with possible periods of blue, SW wind at 15-25 and the freezing level at 7500′. No precipitation.

Tomorrow starts off cloudy, with the freezing level at 8000′. That’s going to drop quickly, hitting 1500′ by 7am, bumping to 2000′ mid-afternoon, and then dropping to 500′ in the afternoon and down to the surface overnight. With such a drop in the temps, we’ll see strong wind: SW 30-35 early, picking up to 45-50 by 7am, 50-55 by 1pm and NW 35-45 by 4pm. Heavy snowfall starts around 10am, with 1” of water value by 4pm, for 9-13” of new snow. That should give us full-on blizzard conditions on the slopes on Monday.

We’ll get another .3” WV by 4am Tuesday, for 4-5” of new snow, after which skies will start clearing. The freezing level will be at the surface early, rising to 500′ in the afternoon. Wind will be NW 35+ early, swinging more to the NNW by 7am. It’s a long way out to be looking, but models show stable air at 10-11k’ on up, meaning we could see significant acceleration of the north wind down the ski slopes.

Wednesday looks clear, with the freezing level at the surface at 4am. Temps will warm to -2C from 1000′-9000′ by 1pm, with the free air freezing level hitting 8000′ Tuesday evening. No precipitation.

Next significant precipitation event will be next Friday, into Saturday, if the models hold.

Windsurfers and kiters can enjoy west wind at 24-28 tomorrow in the eastern Gorge and 17-20 on Tuesday.

Have a great day today!
