We’re still going with the title of “Mt. Hood Sun Forecast” for this section of the forecast. We do have some clouds and possibly some rain in the forecast next week, but “sun forecast” sounds a lot better to me than “rain forecast”. Continued below the chart…

The day after 10,000’ |
Expect a few high clouds this morning with clear sky this afternoon. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 9000′ early and 10,000′ this afternoon with max temps at 5000′ in the mid 40’s. Wind will be W 10 early and W 20 in the afternoon.
Saturday looks sunny. The FAF will be 10,000′ all day with max 5000′ temps in the mid 40’s. Wind will be NW 10-15. Sunday looks just like Saturday, but a few degrees warmer and with 1 hour more daylight in the evening after we change the clocks.
Models show a shift in the weather Tuesday-Thursday next week, with a chance of precipitation. At this point, the precipitation looks to take the form of rain, not snow, with less than 1” total water value over the week.

Gorge Wind
The wind is light and variable this morning with just a .01 E gradient. Expect light easterlies this morning switching to W 5-10 late this afternoon. Tomorrow starts with light W wind and picks up to W 13-16 from Steven’s Locks to Mosier in the afternoon. Sunday starts light and variable and picks up to W 10-15 in the afternoon. With high temps this weekend in the mid 60’s, I see lots of people headed to the river. Remember that the water temp is just 41 degrees.
Out on the coast today, there won’t be much in the way of wind. For Saturday, expect this (north/central/south): 10-15/15-20/25-30, W 4@11. For Sunday: 5-10/10-15/20-25, W 4@13.
Random Morning Thoughts
I was looking at the moon last night and seeing the darker parts, and that got me thinking about human beings. We come into the world as perfect little spheres of light, and then things happen. Meteorites hit us, and they leave holes in our surface, and sometimes they go right through us and carve a hole straight to our core. When people interact with us, they can fall into those holes. Sometimes that hurts, and sometimes the other person fills that meteorite impact for a while. But they can’t do it forever, and they can’t fill all the other holes.
The best way for us to have safe, sane and balanced interactions with others is to heal our own meteorite wounds so they don’t need filling by someone else. Then we shine brightly like an undamaged star, not a pock-marked moon. That’s all for today. Time to ride bikes and fill my meteorite impacts with miles of forested pavement.
(don’t forget that you’re supposed to be writing down something you love about yourself each day this month and putting that nice thought in a mason jar for later…)
Gorge Weather Forecast
Expect some high clouds in the Gorge this morning with sunshine this afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 60’s this afternoon. Light wind, no rainbows. Expect sunshine all day tomorrow (once the sun comes up, of course). Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the upper 60’s in the afternoon. Sunday will also be sunny. Temps will be near 40 in the morning and in the upper 60’s in the afternoon. We may see some clouds Monday evening and a chance of showers Tuesday through Thursday, which would be nice, because I’m about to break out the hose and water my garden.

Road and Mountain Biking
Stop it, stop it, stop it. Everywhere I go, I hear about the awful freeze-thaw conditions in Post and I see muddy bikes. Stop riding Post. Stop it! You are doing all sorts of damage. Post will be here next week, and you won’t be doing damage. Go ride Syncline or Nestor or gravel roads.

Upcoming Events
It’s Friday, and that means you can do Hood River’s most fun run today, the 10 Speed Coffee run. 7am, 10 Speed. 4.5 miles. That gets you a free coffee and a free donut. Why wouldn’t you? Because you don’t eat donuts? Well, donuts are delicious, so you’d better start!
There’s a trail run at 8am tomorrow at Post Canyon. There’s a free seed starting workshop (for you gardeners and aspiring pot growers – it’s not legal ’til July, remember), at Grow Organic at 2pm. On Sunday, there’s community yoga at 9am at Yoga Samadhi, there’s ping pong at the armory at 3, there’s pickup touch rugby at the Mosier School at 3pm, and there’s community yoga at Root Down at 6pm.
Have an awesome day today!
