Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

How about some more snow? Yeah? Good, let’s do it! Light snow, an inch or so, on Saturday night gives way to heavier snow Sunday. The snow level will be 3500′ all day with temps rising to the upper 20’s. Overnight, the snow level falls to 2500′. About 0.5” to 0.6” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day for 5-6” new snow. Overnight, another 0.3” WE falls for 3” more. Wind: SW 30-55 all day dropping to SW 15-25 overnight.

Monday looks snowy too. Well, flurries during the day and snow overnight. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 3000′ overnight. About 0.1” WE falls during the day for an inch of new. Another 0.6” WE falls overnight for 5-7” more. Wind: SW 15-25 all day, WSW 30-40 in the evening, and SW 25-40 overnight.

Snow continues on Tuesday: 0.6” WE during the day and 0.2” WE overnight. The snow level will be 3000′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ overnight. Call that 6-7” snow during the day and 2-3” overnight. Wind: SW 25-40 early, W 30-35 in the afternoon, and NW 25-35 overnight. The W and NW wind could cause snow totals to exceed expectations. Clear, cool weather on Wednesday is followed by warmer, sunnier weather through the weekend. Enjoy!

Bring rakes, shovels, buckets, gloves, water, and snacks. Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
