Gorge Wind Forecast

Hopefully you like easterlies, ‘cuz that’s what you’re getting for a good long while. And hopefully you’ve got a warm and cozy wetsuit, because it’s chilly and will stay that way! For Saturday, pressures started at 30.36/30.45/30.45 for east gradients of 0.09 and 0.00. Average speed from Iwash (Rooster) to Stevenson was 25mph this morning. We should see that build to 30ish, maybe 30-35 at Iwash, and hold all day. River flow yesterday was 98-129kcfs, river temp is 51F, and high temp forecast is 45F. As I was writing this, it was 37F in Stevenson and 24F in Hood River.

Sunday starts with 40+ at Iwash and 30-35 at Stevenson as easterlies confine themselves to the river and leave elevated places alone. In the afternoon, the wind holds around 30mph at Stevenson and drops to 35-40 at Iwash. High temp: 42F under sunny sky. Monday starts with 30-35 at Stevenson and 40+ at Iwash. Afternoon: 25-30 at Stevenson and 30-35 at Iwash. High temp: 42F under sunny sky. Easterlies continue through Tuesday or Wednesday. After that, we move into a more active weather pattern that hold the possibility, but far from a promise, of west wind. Enjoy!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – intermittent forecasts until ski season

All we have in the forecast for the mountain through Wednesday is sunny weather with above-freezing afternoon temps. The only thing that changes is a switch from easterlies (10-20mph) today to light/variable wind through Wednesday. High temps will be pushing 40F.

Starting Thursday, more active weather is forecast. Models suggest it will be cold enough for snow Thursday through Saturday, but they are hinting at warmer, wet weather after that. Model spread is quite wide at this time, so we”ll have to wait and see how things shake out. Will it be enough to get the resorts open? I’m not quite sure yet – there’s just too much variety in the possible outcomes. We’ll keep watching it!

Hood River Weather Forecast

Sunny weather is on tap for the next five days or so. Mornings will be in the 20’s, and afternoons will be in the 40’s. Add in light east wind, and your picture is complete. Well, almost complete. There is a chance of partial Nothing in the mornings starting on Sunday. Now the picture is complete!

Local-ish Events

Please let me know of outdoor-related local-ish events. If you don’t tell me, I don’t know!

Amayah’s has their one-year anniversary party in Biggs. Also, every first Thursday, 1pm to 4pm, they are offering free meals to all. Yup. That’s right. Free Amayah’s once a month!

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.

Cycling

Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
