Gorge Wind Forecast

Offshore high pressure on Wednesday gives us one last day of solid westerlies before a long stretch of easterlies starts up. Early gradients were .08 and .05. We’ll see morning wind in the teens from Viento to Swell and east of The Dalles. Go east of the low clouds for the strongest wind this afternoon. The western Gorge drops to 10-13 a couple hours after sunrise. East of The Dalles, the wind picks up to 24-28. River flow is 71,800cfs, water temp is 59, and the high temp for Hood River is forecast to be 55 degrees.

Thursday brings light easterlies to start the day. Max wind will be near Stevenson late morning. You’ll find 15-20 there for a couple of hours. Afternoon wind drops to 10ish from Rooster to Stevenson with calm wind through the rest of the Gorge. Friday starts with E 20-25 and goes calm in the afternoon. Expect very cold weather and strong easterlies for the weekend.

Coast (north/central/south, waves. Direction north unless otherwise noted. Swell forecast from NWS.) Wednesday: 20-25/20-25/30-40, NW swell 5′ @ 7 building to 8′ @ 8. Thursday: 15-20/25-30/35-40, NW 6′ @ 9. Friday: SW20-25/SW15-20/N20-30, W 7′ @ 6. Jones Wednesday: 11-14. Thursday-Friday: light. Sauvie’s Wednesday: NW 11-14. Thursday: light. Friday: SW10.  

Hood River Weather Forecast

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy. Late afternoon or evening drizzle is possible. Temps will be in the low 50’s in the morning and mid 50’s in the afternoon. Moderate westerlies. 35% chance of rainbows. Thursday looks clear with a chance of a Nothing in the morning. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and mid 50’s later. Light wind. No rainbows. Friday looks clear in the morning and high overcast in the afternoon with cold drizzle in the evening. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s later. Light wind. No rainbows. Cycling

10/15: Motorized us is open on ALL Hood River County Land now. Kreps lands have reopened per their FB page. Hood River County lands have reopened. 0.8” rain fell on Saturday, 10/10 in Hood River. Mt. Hood National Forest: some areas have reopened. Expect many downed trees. Check their website for details. Syncline/Coyote Wall: reopened. SDS and BLC lands: open. Snow fell on trails above 5000′ on Saturday night, but that should be washed away by Tuesday afternoon.

Local Events

Weekly events: The Kainos Coffee run happens in The Dalles every Tuesday morning at 6am. There are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride Thursday nights at 5:30pm. The small boat group has a friendly and distanced paddle on, I believe, Thursday nights. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Griffin House in Hood River at 6pm on Wednesday nights. It appears there is also some sort of sailboat regatta every Friday night. That’s pretty much it for outdoor sports. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Wednesday evening at 6pm at 12th and May.   Have an awesome day!
