Gorge Wind Forecast
This week will be marked by a major shift in the weather. Alaska-based low pressure affects the Northwest. Gusty westerlies result for a couple days followed by very wet weather Wednesday and then gusty eastern Gorge wind Thursday and Friday.
For Monday, we’ll have weak high pressure offshore. That starts the day with light and variable wind. Afternoon westerlies pick up to 19-22 from Stevenson to The Dalles. River flow is 84,000cfs and temp is 66 degrees. High temp today: 74.
Tuesday sees that offshore high in the morning, but the picture will be increasingly dominated by a Gulf of Alaska low in the afternoon. Expect westerlies at 12-15 from Viento to Arlington to start the day. IN the afternoon, the wind picks up to 14-17 from Viento to Arlington with 10-13 near Stevenson. High temp: 71. Wednesday looks dry and calm to start and drenchingly wet after noon. The best we’ll see for westerlies is a short pre-frontal spike late afternoon or early evening way out east – gusty 18-25 for a couple hours, possibly at Threemile. Not worth driving for, and likely to leave you swimming.
As of this morning, Thursday’s wind looks like gusty 21-25 east of Hood River and Friday looks like 18-22 out east, but that’s likely to change, and wind quality is likely to be diminished on Thursday by convection and rain showers.
Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).
