Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Rain moves in the Gorge for the next several days as a series of weather systems move through. While there will be westerlies, they’ll be gusty and inconsistent and mostly short-lived. For Wednesday, it’s light westerlies to start the day. Between early afternoon and sunset, westerlies pick up to gusty 20-26 for a few hours between The Dalles and Maryhill and also Viento and areas farther west (where it will also be pouring). River flow is 65,200cfs, temp is 65, and high temp today will be near 70.

Showers fall all day to The Dalles on Thursday. Light and variable wind starts the day in the west. From Biggs to Arlington, you’ll find gusty 19-23. Afternoon wind picks up to 10-13 in the (showery) western Gorge with gusty 22-25 from The Dalles to Threemile. High temp: 63.

Friday will be sprinkly in the morning with heavy rain to Hood river in the afternoon. The day starts with calm wind or very light westerlies in the west and 15-18 east of The Dalles. Afternoon westerlies: very gusty 24-28 near Viento, and also east of Avery. Other locations: wet 10-13.

Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).
