Gorge Wind Forecast
A weak cold front moving through on Wednesday morning sets us up with clouds, cooler weather, and moderate gusty westerlies. West wind sticks around Thursday and Friday before being replaced by hot weather and easterlies for the weekend.
Wednesday’s wind starts in the teens and twenties all through the Gorge. Stevenson and the Rowena are are in the mid teens, and everywhere else is in the low to mid twenties. Gradients support this with .10 (pdx-dls) and .07 (dls-psc). Westerlies eventually level out at gusty18-22 from Stevenson to Swell (Viento may over-perform) and gusty 22-25 from Mosier to Arlington this afternoon. River flow website is down this morning. Temp is 68 degrees. Clouds clear this afternoon. Hood River high temp: 74.
An offshore front continues the gustiness tomorrow, but sunshine should return for most of the day. Morning wind starts at 13-16 from Viento to Hood River. We’ll see a steady build to 24-27 from Stevenson to Avery with 18-22 near Rufus and light westerlies east of there. High temp: 76.
High pressure starts to build in on Friday. The metro area heats up in response, leading to a midday lull for the Gorge. Expect morning wind at 13-16 from Viento to Hood River. The wind may dip midday. It’ll return to 19-22 from Stevenson to Mosier mid-afternoon. Saturday and Sunday’s forecast currently looks like 100 degrees with easterlies at 20-25, giving this forecaster the opportunity for a couple days off!
Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death.
