Gorge Wind Forecast

The general picture for the next few days is weather systems. One after another will move through the Gorge, bringing a mix of rain, rainbows, and gusty wind.

Saturday’s especially tricky, as incoming heavy rain arriving in the afternoon will potentially wreak havoc with (my) east wind downwind plans. The day starts with very light easterlies. As weak inland high pressure interacts with weak offshore low pressure, the east wind will build. Gusty 20-25 seems likely from Rooster to Viento mid-morning, but you’ll want to be prepared for rain that arrives in the western Gorge by 1pm. Once the rain arrives, the wind will decrease to 10-15.

As the cold front associated with this rain moves through Saturday night, the wind will turn around and blow westerly. We’ll start Sunday with gusty 10-13 out of the west in most places with light or calm wind from Hood River to The Dalles. Afternoon westerlies pick up to gusty 12-15 in the west and gusty 23-27 east of The Dalles. Monday starts with light west wind and picks up to gusty 13-16 from The Dalles to Arlington.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.
