5/16 Gorge wind and events

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

This morning’s amusing ad:

The Canfield Brothers Yelli Screamy
Really Temira, seriously? You’re advertising a bike? A random bike we’ve never heard of? A freakin’ hardtail? Yes, I am, and I’m doing it because I love this bike. So does Jason Wells, who built GP for you. This bike is the Post Canyon destroyer. Slack head tube for descending.29″ wheels for rolling over stuff. Very, very, very short chainstays for fast responding bike action that’ll make you giggle. And yell. And scream. I slay the Gorge on this bike. You should too.Contact sean@canfieldbrothers.com for more info. We’ll have a demo day in late June. Stay tuned.

In wind news today, we’ll see very light westerlies this morning that pick up to gusty 13-15 this afternoon near Hood River with gusty 21-24 further east. Tomorrow looks much windier, with high pressure off the coast combining with a passing weather system for gusty westerlies at 23-27, right off the bat (that’s for you Whit – look out for dawn patrol at Doug’s) and holding all day. We’ll see continued strong west wind at 26-30 this weekend, probably strongest east of Mosier. Sunday and Monday look windy at the Coast too.

Today in bike news, the Hood River Area Trail Stewards have a board meeting at the Hood River fire station at 5:30. Also at 5:30, there’s the Post and Pint mountain bike ride out of Dirty Fingers. If you’re able to sneak out earlier than that, registration for the first of the Gorge Short Track race series starts at 4:30 in Cascade Locks, and racing starts at 5:30.

The Clymb: free membership. Cheap gear. Temira approves. Click to join.

If you happen to be in Cascade Locks this evening, swing by and cheer on the racers, because they’ll be working their butts off and need some love. Don’t forget that tomorrow is national bike to work day, so dust off that bike and ride to the office, and swing by Doppio or North Shore Coffee for a buck off your morning cup.

Coming up this weekend, there’s Gorge Cup Windsurfing races at the Event Site Saturday, and it does look like they’ll have wind. There’s also the Carson to Stevenson Ridge Run on Saturday. On Sunday, there’s the CGWA multi-sport swap meet at Windance, starting at 7am. Also this weekend, on Saturday, the HRATS have a trail work party in Post Canyon. Meet at Family Man at 8:30 to help buff out the trails for next weekend’s Enduro race.

Have an awesome day today!
