Gorge Wind Forecast (and Sauvie’s, Jones, the Coast…)

There’s not much wind and not much gradient this morning, with the pdx-dls reading just .04, the dls-psc at .02, and a negative synoptic scale gradient between the Pacific and the desert. Expect light wind this morning, 10-13 midday between Stevenson and Hood River, and a bump to gusty 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles after 2pm. Beaches near Hood River will likely see a short-lived 21-24 bump before a drop to 16-19. There’s a decent chance of 23-26 at Doug’s and possibly the Rufus stretch of river late this afternoon too, although I suspect the Maryhill stretch will be blowing from a very gusty direction – this wind is shortwave driven, and that’s more conducive to Stevenson and Doug’s than other locations.

Tomorrow starts off with leftovers: 12-15 from Hood River east to Arlington. The wind will back off east of Maryhill by midday, leaving 15-18 or so from Stevenson to Doug’s for the early afternoon session. A weak front approaching in the afternoon will kick the wind up to gusty 22-25 at Stevenson and Doug’s after 2pm with gusty 16-19 near Hood River.

It’s the bi-annual summer pledge drive!
See above for details.

Friday starts off light and variable, picks up to 10-13 by noon, and jumps to gusty 20-23 from Lyle to Arlington mid-afternoon. The western Gorge will likely be cloudy, and possibly even showery, with gusty 10-13. Saturday looks light, and Sunday looks like it will be light other than a brief period of strong wind in the afternoon.

Coast. Light and variable (LTV) everywhere today, NW swell 3′ @ 9 seconds. Tomorrow: LTV, NW 3 @ 16. Friday: S 10-15 everywhere, W 3 @ 16.

Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast. Jones today, 16-19. Jones tomorrow, 10-13. Jones Friday, light. Sauvie’s for the next three days: Light.

Random Morning Thoughts

loveWSV
I’m sitting here this morning thinking about what to say, and what keeps coming up is a topic that I don’t feel qualified to speak on. But I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately. The topic is love.

As children, we learn about love from our parents. That version of “love” becomes our paradigm. If our parents cling to us and call that love, we cling. If they beat us and call that love, we look for abuse. If they nurture us, are attuned to us, support us, and care about us, that is our paradigm for love. In other words, the feeling we learn to call “love” may not actually be love. But we can change that!

When we truly love, the love exists within us, regardless of the other person. We feel warmth, happiness and comfort when we think about the person. (We also feel that way towards ourselves, but that’s a different topic) Love is there with or without the other party reciprocating. We can feel love, if we choose, if we cultivate it, for every single person on the planet. And this will make us happier people – it’s effective for depression, anxiety, and even PTSD.

As an added bonus, the more love you have swirling around inside you, the more you’ll draw people to you. You’ll be the watering hole in the desert, surrounded by giraffes, rhinoceroses, unicorns, and other magical beings. So… there you go: what’s your version of love? How’s that serving you? And can you cultivate more love in your life? Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

As far as I’m concerned, we could ignore the weather for the next two days, go on retreat, and come back on Friday night when everything will be different. Instead, we’ll start with today: hazy and smoky for the morning with temps in the mid 50’s to start. High clouds, some haze, and patches of blue this afternoon with temps in the upper 80’s. Light wind early, moderate late. No rainbows. Tomorrow starts off with light wind and a mix of haze, high clouds and blue sky with temps in the upper 50’s. Tomorrow finishes up with moderate wind, high clouds, and temps in the mid 80’s.

Friday, the day we’re waiting for, starts off hazy with light wind and temps in the low 60’s. By the afternoon, we’ll see lots of low and mid level clouds with temps in the upper 70’s. The sprinkles will start Friday night and become heavy by Saturday morning. 10% chance of rainbows on Friday due to extensive cloudiness, but Saturday brings a 99% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

Well… it’s a bit smoky again this morning, and the trails are still dusty. But hey, it’s not windy, and that makes for great road biking and quiet riding in the woods. If you’d like to see something other than dust on the trails, wait until Saturday. Oh yes. Just you wait. It’s going to rain!
