360rainbow
The day started off foggy on Mt. Hood with some occasional light snow flurries. We’ll see the snowfall rate pick up after 10am. The snow level today will be 1500′ this morning, briefly rising as high as 4500′ between 1pm and 4pm, and dropping back to 2000′ tonight. We’ll see .3-.4” water value between 10am and 4pm, with the possibility of some needles/sleet mixed in there, giving us 2-4” of relatively heavy new snow. We’ll see another .5” WV tonight, for 4-6” of regular old snow. We’ll probably see breaks in the weather alternating with periods of orographic snowfall (terrain-enhanced) after 10pm. Wind today will be SW 10-15 early, rising to SW 20-25 this afternoon and turning to W 40 overnight. Continued after the chart.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m thinking more this morning about the hatred and anger and fear that’s sweeping over our country right now, driven by politicians attempting to capture votes. I’m truly baffled. After all, hatred, rage, and fear don’t feel good. So what we have here is a bunch of politicians on both sides of the spectrum making people feel awful.

Try it out. Think to yourself, “I hate (insert name of person you’ve had difficulties with)”. Feel your body tense up? Maybe you got a little sick to your stomach? Now think, “Immigrants are coming, and they’re going to take my job.” You’re afraid. Your heart rate picked up, right?

There’s something powerful there too, isn’t there? Feeling afraid, feeling angry, feeling hate… those emotions make you want to DO SOMETHING, don’t they? And they make you want to do that something right now.

You, me, all of us are being manipulated by the language of our politicians. They want you to do something (vote, donate, tell your friends to do the same), and they’re tapping into your negative emotions to make that happen. So, the next time you feel yourself getting all riled up due to a politician’s rhetoric, stop for a moment. See if you can figure out what they’ve tapped into, and slow yourself down. Don’t react. Take some time to think. See if you can find another way to respond, rather than with matching negativity. You’ll feel better, and you might just find a way to channel that energy into something positive (volunteering for a cause, for example). Have an awesome day.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went over and rode Syncline yesterday, and here’s your report: Moab – dry. Maui – perfect. Doubletrack – good enough to ride. Hidden – too wet in spots. Waterfalls – full and beautiful. Tree on Maui – just a little lower than it was. Given how nice the weather’s been, I’d love an update for Whoopdee if anyone’s been up there. Post is also due for a new report, although incoming rain today will make it too muddy to ride again.
