Random Morning Thoughts

I was at the Ruins last night, and luckily I showed up early, because I got to catch the last bit of Kalai‘s set. That guy has a voice from heaven. Wow. Anyway, I ran into my friends Tim and Ian, and they mentioned they’d just kicked of a Kickstarter to open the Underground Music Station, a music studio, lesson venue, and karaoke room in Hood River. So, since that was music-related, I thought I’d mention it too. And… Ian says he can teach me to sing. If that’s possible, it would be a dream come true, because I can’t carry a tune to save my life, and the one thing I’ve always wished for is the ability to sing like an angel. Like Kalai. Wow. That dude blew me away.

Do you find this forecast useful? Hooray! It’s pledge drive month!

Thanks for coming here for your forecast. It’s time for the annual pledge drive! “WHAT?”, you say, “I thought this was free!” It is, but it takes lots of time. It’s my job, and you’re my employers! Here’s the deal: Every day someone has to pledge. If not, no website forecast the next day: only the people on the email list get their forecast. Want on that list? Make a donation. Do I save you gas? Find you more fun? Entertain you? The email list is not $99/year. Not $50/year. No, just $12.34 or more gets you on the list for the next year. Anything over the minimum feeds my coffee and bicycle addictions and makes me feel loved, and god knows we all need to feel loved. Do it via PayPal/CC by clicking on my photo. And thank you so much for your support. Don’t PayPal? You can send a check to PO Box 841 in Hood River. Thank you for your support. It means the world to me.

Gorge Wind

We’re starting today with the gradient we’ve been waiting for: .15 from Portland to The Dalles, plus another .04 from The Dalles to Pasco. It’s plenty windy already (at 5:45am), despite high clouds from a passing weather disturbance. The disturbance will make things gusty this morning, but it will still be windy. Expect 23-27 from the Hatchery to Mosier this morning, picking up to 26-30 late morning, and then picking up to 27-31 from the Hatch to Rufus. Stevenson will see 22-25 today starting late morning, and Arlington/Roosevelt will see 26-30 starting late afternoon after a slow build during the day.

Tomorrow looks less windy. We should see 17-21 early from Hood River to Mosier, picking up to 21-24 mid-morning from Stevenson to Hood River. Late in the afternoon, as a disturbance approaches, we’ll see the wind get gusty and fill in out to Doug’s. If you are kiting, windsurfing, SUPing or yachting tomorrow, keep an eye out for the Lasers, and give them the right of way, as they’re doing a race from Cascade Locks to Hood River.

Friday looks like a gusty 15-18 day. As of today, Saturday looks like 15-18, and Sunday looks a bit weird, as strange things, including possible thunderstorms, happen in the upper flow. So… no solid call for Sunday, and really, given how far we are from Saturday, no solid call there either!

Coast forecast. Winds are for the north coast/central coast/south coast. Today: 20/25-30/30+, NW7 feet @ 7seconds. Tomorrow: 15-20/20/20-25, NW7@8. Friday: not so windy.

Gorge Weather

Things are starting off a bit cloudy today, as a weak weather disturbance pushes through. The clouds should clear by late morning or early afternoon, leaving us with a sunny day. Temps will be in the upper 60’s early and mid 80’s this afternoon. Tomorrow looks sunny, with temps in the upper 50’s early and mid 80’s in the afternoon. Friday will likely see some high clouds with temps in the upper 50’s early and low 90’s in the afternoon.

Road and Mountain Biking

Today is probably not the day to head east on a road bike ride, as you’ll be pedaling downhill into a headwind on the way home. Instead, head to Odell or Parkdale, counterclockwise, and you’ll have a tailwind for much of your ride. In dirt news, it’s dusty. So, once the cherries are off the trees, start praying for rain.
