Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Dry weather is forecast on the hill for the next several days. Along with that: intermittent high clouds of varying thicknesses. In other words, filtered sunshine at times, and full-on cloudiness at others. There’s no precip in the next few days, but we’ll have snow starting late Thursday or early Friday followed by dry weather Saturday and another, heavier round of snow on Sunday.

Not much changes between now and Thursday evening. For Tuesday, we’ll have high clouds all day. The free air freezing level will be 5000-6000′ all day. Wind: NW 20-30 this morning, W 25 this afternoon, and W 20 overnight. Wednesday will be high overcast all day. The free air freezing level will be 6000′. Wind: W 20 in the morning, SW 10-20 in the afternoon, and S 10-20 overnight. See: nothing changing! As the temps bounce around above and below freezing, we’ll see the snow transition from packed powder to hardpack to potentially some frozen granular, but we might not make it to granular before the next system arrives. We shall see!

Thursday may start clear but will definitely add high clouds in the afternoon. A few flurries are possible overnight. The free air freezing level will be 6000′, and the snow level will drop to 4000′ overnight. Just a trace of snow will fall. Wind: S 10-20 in the morning, SW 20-30 in the evening, and SW 30-45 after midnight.

The snow level will be around 3500′ on Friday with up to 5” of new snow in the 24 hour period. Saturday looks dry. Sunday starts with light snow. The snowfall picks up in the afternoon. And… that’s your week on Mt. Hood. Enjoy!

Regular weekly events: NK Studios in Bingen has a donation-based yoga class at 7:30am every Tuesday. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. Also: Wednesday Paddle Sprints at the Event Site at Noon.

Cycling

Be thoughtful about your riding choices as we enter this dry period. If it was below freezing the night before your ride, don’t ride trails that are exposed to the open air. Those trails will have freeze-thaw conditions, and you’ll do major damage. Consider gravel riding! If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
