Thursday/Friday. Sun for the weekend!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s a cloudy start to Thursday on Mt. Hood, and once again it’s winter. Before I get into the forecast, I’d like to let you know that Sunday is the last day of the season at Skibowl. As always, it’s Ski Free day. They’re hoping you’ll bring four cans of food for the Portland Sunshine Division, but you can ski free even if you don’t. Okay, back to today, which is Thursday (and maybe Friday if I don’t write a forecast tomorrow). We’ll see a cloudy day with on and off flurries that increase in the afternoon. The snow level will be 2000′ early, 3500′ in the afternoon, and back down around 2000′ tonight. We’ll see an inch or so of new snow today, followed by a trace tonight. Wind will be SW 25 in the morning, SW 15 in the afternoon, and W 25 after midnight.

Friday looks cloudy with on and off snow flurries. The snow level will be between 2000′ and 2500′ all day, dropping to 1500′ under partly cloudy sky after midnight. We’ll see 1-2” of new snow during the day. Wind will be W 25 all day, dropping to W 15 after midnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued

Saturday looks partly cloudy in the morning, mostly clear for most of the day, with some scattered high clouds overnight. The free air freezing leve will be 1500′ in the morning, rising during the day to land at 5500′ after midnight. Wind will be W 15 early, becoming light and variable by afternoon.

As of right now, Sunday looks clear and sunny to start, possibly after few high clouds. This sunshine is quite appropriate for Sun-Day. The free air freezing level will be 5500′ in the morning and 6500′ in the afternoon. No precip. Light and variable wind. Looks like we’ll head back into a borderline-temp precipitation cycle starting on Monday evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Thursday. Light and variable wind this morning goes to gusty W 12-15 this afternoon. Friday starts off with W 7-11 through the entire Gorge. As a weather system moves in during the afternoon and high pressure begins to build off the coast, we’ll see the wind pick up. After 2pm, you can expect W 11-14 under cloudy sky in the western Gorge with W 22-25 east of The Dalles out to Arlington. Saturday looks light and variable all day, and Sunday brings E 20-25 at Rooster and E 15-20 at Steven’s Locks.

Random Morning Thoughts

Representative Greg Walden held a town hall in The Dalles yesterday and one in Hood River. I’m still kinda reeling from the energy in that room (empath thing…), so my thoughts are a little scattered. One thing I found interesting was the wide political range of people who showed up for Rep. Walden’s town hall as opposed to Senator Merkley’s town hall.

Senator Merkley’s (D) town hall was quiet and respectful, for the most part. Rep. Walden’s (R) was different, very different. People yelled. They contradicted the Representative. They booed. They, once in a while, cheered. I am curious about the difference, but with that’s food for further thought.

While I was waiting to enter, I had a long conversation with some folks from the Portland area. Like me, they are frustrated with many things that are happening in our country. While their reasons for frustration are different than mine, we agreed in a lot of areas – we don’t feel heard, we don’t like the way systems are (or are not) functioning, and we don’t feel represented by our representatives.

I walked away from the conversation feeling surprisingly more connected with angry folks from the opposite side of the political spectrum. Sitting here writing this, I feel like we (“us” and “them”) are really on the same team, even if our desires are different. In our frustration and helplessness, we are able to come together as humans.

This isn’t a realization that can happen intellectually, I believe. We need to take a chance and have heartfelt conversations with those who hold different views. It can feel scary to do that, but the rewards really can outweigh the fears. I challenge you to give it a shot. Sit and listen without arguing your point. Try and understand. It’ll make your day awesome. =)

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s cloudy out there, and I’m about to have a meltdown about the lack of sun. Expect a cloudy day with scattered sunbreaks this afternoon along with showers. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. 76% chance of rainbows. Friday brings sprinkles early, showers in the afternoon, and sprinkles overnight along with sunbreaks. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the low 50’s later. Light to moderate west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. There may be scattered sprinkles Saturday morning, but it’ll turn sunny and awesome in the afternoon. Yes, that’s a values judgment. Sunday looks sunny early and cloudy late in the day.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

I believe it rained yesterday which means that Post and Whoopdee are too wet. You know the drill. Syncline, road biking, gravel biking.

Upcoming Events

There’s a community dance-exercise class at 11am at the White Salmon Grange. There’s community yoga tonight at 6pm at Samadhi, Tai Chi at Our Savior Church in Bingen at 6:30. Coming up Friday morning, it’s the Kickstand Coffee Run. A 4 mile jog at 7am gets you a free cup of coffee and a donut. Healthy. Very healthy.

Coming up later this week, the Dirty Harlots mountain bike race team has a fundraiser on Friday night at Dirty Fingers. On Saturday, Hood River County has a trail work party on the 140. Meet at Post Flats Staging Area. Sunday is Easter, so make sure to stock up on Peeps and Cadbury Eggs.

Have an awesome day today!
