Gorge Wind Forecast

Whitecaps start the day on the Columbia. Get them now, because they’re mostly taking a break until next Monday. With morning gradients at 0.12 and 0.05, your choices of where to go will be vast. Dawn Patrol wind will be in the 21-24 range from Viento to Mosier with 12-15 east to Arlington and 5-10 at Stevenson. By late morning, the wind fills in at 21-24 from Stevenson (where it holds through evening, most likely) to Mosier and starts to pick up from Lyle to Rowena. Hold out until the evening, and you’ll see the wind become gustier and less reliable from Viento to Mosier (17-20 or so) with 21-24 from Lyle to Rufus with 15-18 at Arlington. River flow is 156kcfs, river temp is 64F, and high temp forecast is 89F.

Westerlies stick around for Friday morning, but it’s uncertain if they’ll be kind enough to stick around for the afternoon heat. The day kicks off with Dawn Patrol at 14-17 from Viento to Swell with 7-10 to the east and west. The most likely scenario seems to be a drop to 11-14 or so from Stevenson to Swell with 7-10 at Mosier and light/variable wind to the east of there. Muggy. High temp: 96F.

Saturday looks completely calm and horrifically hot with high temps forecast to be near 105. Sunday will be just as hot, but it adds in some easterlies, perhaps as much as 15-20, from Rooster to Stevenson. Models hint at strong Corridor westerlies returning at the beginning of next week. Given the horrific heat forecast, this forecast will switch to the evening for the next few days, most likely, so I can enjoy something outdoors early in the day before I retreat to a mountain lake or air-conditioned spot.
